Hi I'm Amelia

I've grown up in the U.S. and am now attending Brigham Young University in Provo as a psychology major. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I love the outdoors! Whether it's hiking, paddle boarding, kayaking, or just relaxing in the sun, I love to be outside. Some other interests include photography, yoga, and spending time with my family. I'm especially close to my sister, who is four years younger than me. Currently I'm a freshman in college, and it's been an amazing year so far! It's definitely been difficult, but I prefer to look at life not as success versus failure, but as each experience as something to learn and grow from.

Why I am a Mormon

I have found that following the teachings and principles outlined by the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and modern-day prophets brings more joy and is more rewarding than anything else I've ever known. I know that the teachings of this church are true, thanks to many small but powerful experiences that seem insignificant on their own, but combined are indescribable.

How I live my faith

As a student at Brigham Young University where 95% of students are Mormons, I am surrounded by people who share my faith. Sometimes this makes it hard to categorize which parts of my life are strictly education and which are religion, but it also enables me to immerse myself in my faith more fully. Students are expected to follow an Honor Code that mirrors Mormon values, such as living a chaste life and not drinking alcohol. Every other Sunday, my roommate and I have been asked to teach the other girls in our hall. We focus more on facilitating discussion of spiritual topics than teaching, because everyone has a unique perspective to contribute.

What is being a Mormon like?

Amelia
Being Mormon means having hope. We know that there is a God who absolutely loves His children. Although we may suffer terrible things, I know that everything will be okay in the end. Knowing that there is peace and joy ahead gives us hope. We gain joy from the knowledge that if we do our best, we can live with those we love even after we die. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Amelia
The first step is just to have a desire to know Him. Next, pray to Him. Talk to Him as if he were really there and listening. Tell Him about your life, and your desire to know if He is real. Ask for reassurance and love. I promise that if you ask with an open heart and sincerity, He will answer your prayers in his own time and way. Continue to nourish your growing faith by reading scriptures such as the Bible and Book of Mormon. They contain the words of prophets who have all had sacred experiences with God, from which they gain wisdom that can aid us in our journey to come nearer to him. Lastly, the easiest way to grow closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is to obey their commandments. As we strive to align our lives with our Savior's, we can grow closer to our Father in Heaven. Show more Show less
