Hi I'm Richard

I was born and raised in Idaho, USA. I love America and am grateful for my rich heritage. It is great blessing to be a Mormon.

About Me

I presently live in Idaho with my wife of 44+ years. I am a retired Boy Scout professional and enjoy spending time with our nine children and twenty-one grandchildren. I enjoy traveling and seeing the beautiful world we live in. My education was in history and archival work. I enjoy hiking , camping, family history, and just history in general. I have always enjoyed meeting new people. Having worked in customer service based organizations, both as a professional and volunteer, has made me aware of how many wonderful people live in this world.

Why I am a Mormon

I been blessed to have been born of goodly parents. From my birth, they taught me about Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. My father held the Priesthood, which is the authority to act in the name of God. When ever I was sick or injured he would administer to me (James 5:14). I would be healed of my affliction. It was during these experiences that that the seed of faith and my testimony began to grow. When I turned eight I was baptized by immersion into the church by my father. I was also confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and received the Holy Ghost. I still remember the feeling of being clean and always wanting to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Shortly after my baptism my grandfather died. This was a heart rendering experience for me. As I wept while holding on to my fathers leg, there enveloped a warm feeling that testified to me that I would see my grandfather again because of Christ's atonement. This was my first, of many, experiences of the Holy Ghost testifying the truth to me. Another poignant experience came to me when I was fifteen. I was attending the 1964 Boy Scout National Jamboree. Our tour took us to the Joseph Smith farm in Manchester County, New York. I went out to what we call the sacred grove. It was here that Joseph Smith prayed (James 1:5) to know which church was right. Our Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph Smith. I also prayed while in this sacred place, and the Holy Ghost confirmed to me that Joseph Smith did see God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. I testify that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that he did restore His Church to the earth. The keys of the Priesthood he held are now held by Thomas S. Monson, who is a prophet today.

How I live my faith

I have many opportunities to serve in my faith. My wife and I have been blessed to serve in one of our temples. In the temple many members of the church participate in sacred ordinances (baptism and marriage) for both the living and their ancestors. I also serve older couples and widows every month as a home teacher. I look after their needs and give them a gospel message to strengthen their faith. I also have the opportunity to teach lessons to the adult men in our church about our Father in Heaven and His son Jesus Christ. I also serve our young men as a boy scout committee chairman. The opportunity to see young men develop better citizenship, and make ethical decisions that will determine the quality and happiness of their lives is most rewarding. My own life is a product of those men and women who have influenced the development of my character.
