Hi I'm Sherry

I'm a Taiwan native and soon-to-be missionary in California. I love 80's music, desserts, and laughing. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Taiwan and my family moved to the States when I was eight months old. Now, I call the Chicago land area my home. I am the oldest of three - I have a brother and a sister. Human anatomy and the human body overall fascinates me which is why I decided to study nursing at Brigham Young University. However, I will take an 18 month break to serve as a missionary for my church in the California Arcadia mission, Mandarin speaking. I enjoy playing the piano, trying different types of food, painting nails, spending time with friends and family - whether that's in the States or back in Taiwan - and I am always up for a good dance party.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised as a member of the church, I still had to decide for myself if it was true and if I wanted to live the teachings of the gospel. Through the years, I have gained and strengthened my testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have so much gratitude for this gospel and everything it has brought me. I love the Book of Mormon and I know it is true. When I read it, I always find peace even when my life feels hectic. It brings a kind of strength and happiness that can't be found anywhere else. I am eternally grateful for Christ's atonement and sacrifice. I know that he atoned for our sins and died on the cross to make it possible for me and everyone else to return back to him and Heavenly Father. I am imperfect and I make mistakes everyday, but I know with the Atonement, my burdens and guilt can be taken away and I can be strengthened to overcome temptations, weaknesses and trials. I know that we have a living prophet here on the earth today - Thomas S. Monson - and I am thankful for his guidance and counsel. I know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me individually beyond understanding. I know that He is always aware of me and knows what is best for me. I am grateful for opposition in life so that I may experience true happiness and joy. Many people tell me I'm a happy person and I attribute that to the gospel of Jesus Christ. My life is definitely not perfect, but the gospel gives me something to be grateful for every single day of my life and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Being a member my whole life, I have grown up knowing that I am a child of God. As I have gotten older, I realized that being a child of God means that I have to help others know and feel that too. I try doing that through my callings or responsibilities within the church, such as teaching Sunday school, organizing uplifting activities for the youth, or simply trying to be a better friend. However, we believe everyone is a child of God, member or not, and they should be just as loved. Although I am definitely not perfect at it, I try making the people around me happy by volunteering around the community such as at a short-term transitional home, Special Olympics, and hospices. I also love giving people compliments and making new friends. Now, I am dedicating a year and a half to solely focus on serving my Heavenly Father and sharing the happiness that comes from the gospel to the people in California. The Lord has given me so much and the least I can do is share that blessing to His children!
