Hi I'm Jacob

I help research nuclear fusion energy technology at a national research laboratory. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a single guy living in northern California. I work at a national research laboratory at a giant laser that we use to study nuclear fusion and other really cool physics problems. Before I worked at the lab, I was in the U.S. Navy and I served as a nuclear reactor operator on board a nuclear powered submarine. I love to travel and I've visited Japan, Singapore, Thailand, The Philippines, Australia, Hawaii, and Canada. For exercise, I'm a running junkie. I love how I feel after a long run and I love setting a goal and working toward it. I've run 3 half marathons and my ultimate running goal is to someday complete a full marathon. When I was younger, video games were my thing. I don't find the time to play them as much any more, but I can still lose a day on a good game if I want to. I love watching movies and TV too.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I've been a member of the church my whole life, I haven't always gone to church. There was a time when I didn't see a place for God in my life. Eventually, I felt an emptiness. It's hard to describe. Going to church, reading the scriptures, and praying to my Heavenly Father has taken that emptiness away. Now, I choose to learn about Jesus Christ and his gospel and try to follow him as much as I can because of how much comfort doing that has brought me. As a single guy on my own, I sometimes feel very alone in the world. This church has helped me understand that no matter how lonely I feel, I always have a Father in heaven and a heavenly brother, Jesus Christ, who loves me so much he chose to be resurrected with the permanent imprints of his sacrifice on his hands to demonstrate how much he cares about me.

How I live my faith

I love helping other people! My church does lots of "service projects" where we find people who need something and go help them. That's one of my favorite things to do in life. At church, I teach the Gospel Doctrine scripture study class to some of the other adults at church. This is a great way to provide service. I get to help people feel how much Jesus Christ loves them and share my own testimony of His gospel every week. I also am challenged every week to study and prepare a new lesson. This has stretched me and enriched my life. It's funny, but I think I learn more as a teacher than I ever did as a student!
