Hi I'm Lilburn Deskins

A retired government employee who lived years abroad. Married 45 years to a loving and very tolerant woman. I am a Mormon.

About Me

A convert of over 52 years, I am a father of six children. I am a Doctor Who and scifi addict. I enjoy coin collecting and have done extensive genealogical research on my family. I enjoy reading about the explorers, their adventures, and exotic places. I have traveled many lands and enjoyed many cultures. My life has been full. I have walked where the ancients walked - Rome, Kyoto, Greece, Vienna, Delft, Petra, and many more. I sailed the Nile and Lake Victoria, dined on the Rhine and the Mekong. I have the see the pyramids, Angkor Wat, seen the White and Blue Nile and gone on safaris. And the list goes on. In it all, my family and I been Mormons everywhere we have lived. Mormonism has been my anchor.

Why I am a Mormon

It is my firm conviction that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. I accept Him as my personal Savior and Redeemer. I have a sure witness that the gospel in its purity as originally taught by the Savior was corrupted over the ages. I am a Mormon because I have faith that this original gospel was restored in our day through a living modern day prophet, Joseph Smith. Thus the fullness of the gospel is back upon the earth with living prophets and apostles, who direct us under the guidance of the Savior. I believe that every activity, ordinance, doctrine, and principle of the church has but one purpose - to lead us to God by helping us understand Him and his Son and our relationship with them better and thus enabling us to become more like them.

How I live my faith

Without my faith I would have no meaning in life and my existence would be void and empty. the importance of the family, the purpose of life on the earth, and my relationship to mankind are clear to me because of the gospel. This knowledge stirs my soul and I commit my time, talents, and energy in helping other both temporally and spiritually as I strive to be like the Savior. I view my relationship with mankind differently because of my faith. My desire to be a better husband, father, neighbor and friend are stronger because of my faith.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Lilburn Deskins
The scriptures contain the dealings of God with ordinary people like myself and my family. The stories of these people are so real to me. I see myself in their problems and struggles. They provide answers to my personal odyssey in life. Thus, scripture reading helps me become a better husband, father, and neighbor. As I ponder what I read, my mind is enlightened and I receive impressions on how to better solve daily problems and I feel closer to God. Show more Show less
