Hi I'm Lauren

I am a Utah native, a college student, and I'm almost a missionary for the New Zealand Hamilton Mission! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love playing basketball, softball, and volleyball. If it's got a ball, I'm willing to give it a shot. I love being outside. I am currently attending college here in Utah. I am in my second semester so I know now what people are talking about when they say finals week is awful. I am single. I come from a family full of girls, and I'm still kind of bummed I don't have any brothers. I love nutella, grape-flavored ice cream, and basically anything my mama will cook for me when I get to go home on breaks. I love reading, and swinging on my swing. I love to laugh, sometimes even when it is during the most inappropriate times (you know what I mean). I love my chucks. I am also a really lousy cook ( which is why I am so appreciative of ma's cooking). I really like listening to classic rock, and various one-hit-wonders from the same era. I have successfully trained all of my younger sisters into loving the same kind of music! I watch a lot of old movies too. I am a big Humphrey Bogart fan, Casablanca is one of my all-time favorite movies. Last but not least...I like pina coladas (non-alcoholic of course), and getting caught in the rain!

Why I am a Mormon

There are endless reasons why I am a Mormon. One of my most important is my family. I love them dearly, and through sacred covenants that my parents made in the temple when they got married, my family can be together forever. I believe this to be true because our God is a loving God, and he wants me to be happy. My primary source happiness comes from my family, and the Gospel. I know that Heavenly Father hears my prayers. Heavenly Father knows who I am, and He wants me to communicate with Him. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church upon the earth today. I believe The Book of Mormon provides true doctrine. I am grateful for the Atonement. Everyone has a chance to live in heaven with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again by being obedient and striving to be a better person.

How I live my faith

I am a ward missionary for my ward. This basically means I get to work with the missionaries that are serving in the area, help re-activate members who we don't get to see very often, and I get to teach during Sunday school every once in a while. I love to do this, because I always learn more when I teach. I also just got my first official visiting teaching assignment. This means I get to visit some sisters in my ward, share a message with them, and help them out with anything they need . I am also preparing to serve a mission here pretty soon.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Lauren
We do baptisms for the dead because baptism is an essential ordinance that everyone needs in order to be exalted. We do baptisms so people who are on the other side of the veil may choose to accept this ordinance that has been performed in his/her behalf. By doing baptisms for the dead, all people may have the opportunity to receive the blessings of this covenant, especially those who lived during the time the Gospel was not yet restored, and those who did not have a chance to learn about the Gospel in this life.
