Hi I'm Jacob

USU Student, former ball boy, mediocre tennis player, music lover, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Well, I enjoy the sport of tennis, watching or playing. I attended a semester at Utah State University, but have now been called to the Santiago Dominican Republic Mission. Disneyland is great, especially the World of Color and not so much the walking. I like to go boating, skiing, sledding, and sporting/ social events.

Why I am a Mormon

Up until my senior year of high school I honestly didn't have a testimony of the Gospel. Even though I had grown up in the church, gaining a testimony still works the same. I had to put forth the effort to gain one and I honestly had not. My prayers were insincere, I went to church because I had to, I attended released time because I had to. Everything about the church was a checklist for me. It wasn't until one of my seminary teachers straight up told me that I needed to do better. I had never had a seminary teacher be so blunt to me. I knew that what my teacher said was true because didn't feel terrible for what he said to me, I felt terrible because I knew it was true. I realized that I needed to find out why I wanted to be a part of this religion. After that my actions, prayers, and attitude changed about church. I finally began to search with real intent to find out if this church was true. My answer slowly came. It wasn't like many people where they said their first prayer and suddenly they knew because of an overpowering feeling. My testimony was built over small blessings and answers to my prayers. Blessings that had given me peace during a time of turmoil. Miracles that happened that allowed me to have my college education paid for. Experiencing for the first time the relief of having sins washed away and personally knowing that they were forgiven. Feeling the pure love and joy brought by the Gospel. Even before I searched for the truth in this Gospel I had been blessed then. I'm a Mormon because it has brought me happiness and peace. It does not take away the challenges in my life but it makes them manageable. I have been blessed by this Gospel in so many ways and I know that if you have real intent to find of it's truth, it will come.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by participating and through my example. Within the Church I have served in various callings as a leader, or an assistant. Within those callings I did everything from planning meetings to helping out struggling members. I firmly believe that a religion isn't something you do just one day a week. It should be a way of life. Whether it is reading my scriptures everyday, saying prayers, or following Christ's example of loving thy neighbor, I try to make sure that my religion is a part of I am and not just an activity I participate in.
