Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in Minnesota where there are not a lot of Mormons. When I was in high school, my friends asked me a lot of questions about my beliefs. I started to wonder about some of the things they were asking about. I decided to find answers to their questions and I ended up strengthening my own testimony of the church. The more I studied, the better I felt. I found great answers to all of the questions and I felt at peace when I did. I realized then that this was a tough church to belong to. We are different. We are unique. But I knew that if I was going to be a Mormon, then I would do it 100%. I decided to follow the commandments, listen to and follow the words of a living prophet and to do it with all my heart. I knew I needed a personal testimony of the church's doctrine. I studied the scriptures, I attended classes, I prayed. I received answers to my prayers. I felt the peace and love of a loving Father in Heaven in my life. I know that when I live a good worthy life, the Holy Ghost can be with me to give me guidance and peace. I know this is a great gift from God. I have used this gift many times in my life. Sometimes, promptings have helped me avoid danger. Sometimes, I have felt peace or comfort. Sometimes, I have gotten very real answers to my prayers. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am grateful that He died for me and for all. I will spend my life trying to help and serve others to show Him that I am grateful and to follow Him and to show my love for Him. I will never be able to repay Him but I may be able to comfort a saddened heart or give support and love to one in need. I feel happy when I serve. I know that is the Spirit telling me that I am doing good. I want to always be able to feel peace and comfort and have the knowledge that I can, one day, kneel at the Savior's feet and thank Him for His love and sacrifice and to thank my Father in Heaven for giving mankind His Son.

How I live my faith

I have worked with the youth of the church for many years. For three years the teenage girls in our area have gone on a 13 mile walk through Philadelphia to walk to the site of our future temple. We are physically preparing as we are reminded to Spiritually prepare for the Philadelphia Temple. This past summer, my husband and I go to go on a Pioneer Trek where we reenacted the travels of the pioneers with handcarts and we even dressed like pioneers. We were assigned children and we pushed and pulled those carts over pretty rough terrain. It was a 3 day event. We learned a lot about what the pioneers went through. We learned a lot about families as well. By the end, we were all very close as a family. I have helped to plan a week long camp for the teenage girls at church where they have fun, make friends, learn new skills and grow closer to their Savior. I have also been the president of our women's organization where I watched over 110 women ages 18 and up. I helped with needs, arranged Sunday lessons, helped assign two sisters to visit and watch over each sister. We held events where the women can learn, and get to know each other. We also did a lot of service. Our women are very diverse and speak many languages and have many different backgrounds. I also worked on creating unity among them. I now work in the church to help the community get to know us better. I volunteer with a group in my school district and we reach out to families in our district that are in need. I helped organize Holiday meals for 8 families. Many people donated food and other items so these families could have a happy holiday. This group also collects clothing to swap and school supplies for kids in need in our area. I was also able to observe a family receive a car that was donated. What a blessing this was to this family.
