Hi I'm Jake Sanborn

I am a hunter, fisherman, banjo player, and future motivational speaker, and i'm a mormon!

About Me

Well, the first thing that always comes to mind is my passion for the outdoors! I am an avid outdoors-man with a passion for hunting, fishing, camping, and one of my favorites, spear fishing! I love animals and being outside. I love sports as well and grew up playing football, and in high school I found another passion of mine which was Mixed Martial Arts. I love music, and playing it on my banjo!

Why I am a Mormon

Like a lot of members of the church I was baptized at age 8. My family was involved in the church when I was younger and I had a lot of fun in primary and scouts. I got a little older and long story short by the time I was in middle school I was "less active". I hung out with the wrong crowd I guess, but I found myself just going through the motions at church. I didn't listen to what my parents, or the prophet, or anything anyone said about the church, and how it was true. I really thought I would be happier living contrary to the gospel teachings and commandments. Growing up I got involved with a worse crowd and struggled with many addictions and things that really caused me to be spiritually separated from God. Things got worse until a year after high school. I decided I needed to change but I thought for sure I had made to many mistakes, I didn't know if I could be forgiven. I remembered learning about eternal families and that was something I really wanted, so I decided to try out church again. With the help of some family and most of all the lord i was able to change and I truly felt the power of the atonement and how it can truly extinguish the sting of sin, I felt clean and forgiven. I prayed and read my scriptures everyday and gave it all to the lord, and in return he blessed me with a knowledge of the gospel, and the opportunity to serve a mission and share that message with others. I know without a doubt that God lives and knows us and the saviors atonement has the power to heal any soul who has that desire, he truly loves and suffered that through him we can become more than we could have without him. I am a Mormon because I have tasted of the most bitter, and tasted of the most sweet. The church is the very essence of all things real and true. I have seen firsthand how Christ can change lives, and also the love he has for each one of us. I am a Mormon because I know God and Christ live.

How I live my faith

I live my faith now by being committed in everything I do. The gospel is now at the center of every decision I make. I speak and teach every so often in my ward and I love it. Personally I read scriptures and pray everyday, and strive to become like Christ through serving. Another thing I did growing up was participate in scouts, which has also helped me in many ways. I have prepared and will be serving a mission in California in January 2015, and cant wait for that adventure!
