Hi I'm Ashton Vorkink

I enjoy being active and playing sports, especially basketball. I love spending quality time with my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have finished my third semester at Brigham Young University and I am now interested in majoring in special education. I am currently home making preparations to serve a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love playing sports and being active, I played basketball and volleyball in high school (basketball is my favorite). I come from a loving, supportive family of 8 and I enjoy spending time with them. When I have free time, I like to play the piano (even though I am not very great), cook, sew, sing, babysit, and be with my family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon not because my parents forced me to be one. I am a Mormon because I realized for myself that I believe in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have been able to put them to the test. I have done this by obeying the commandments and following the things that are taught in this church, and while I did those things I could recognize that they were true. I felt more joy in my daily life and I felt more connected to my Father in Heaven. I have read the Book of Mormon and have come to a knowledge of its truth and value. I am a Mormon because I love being a Mormon. It sometimes is not easy to keep the commandments, and I am not perfect at this, but when I put an honest effort towards this then I feel a much needed peace in my life.

How I live my faith

I grew up attending church with my family each Sunday, and after I turned 8 I also had weekly church activities that I would participate in. When I reached 12 years old I began working on a youth program called Personal Progress. This program was made up of personal goals and projects that helped me strengthen my relationship with God and others around me. I served others through this program by watching children for free, making baby blankets, creating a cook book, tending to a garden, and so many other things. Other goals included praying consistently, and striving to be more kind to those around me, especially my family. As I began to be involved with this program and the goals that are included in it, I became more excited about church and solidified my personal beliefs. Since that time, I have been able to be a leader for other young women my age. I was able to plan and prepare activities, and watch out for the other girls. I also visit a couple of women, who live in my community and attend my church, each month and share with them uplifting messages.
