Hi I'm Stephanie

I'm a proud Southerner. I love laughter. I am a missionary in the California Long Beach Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student studying Early Childhood- Special Education. I hope to one day become a Speech Pathologist. I LOVE kids!! I grew up dancing (ballet, jazz, tap, and dance team in high school) and I still love it today. Since it is difficult as a college student to find the time to sign up for a daytime dance class, I have picked up Zumba in the past few years and I love it! I love trying new things, so i have tons of hobbies and I love finding more. I am pretty ambitious when it comes to crafts. Give me a wood saw and I'll go to town! The only thing holding me back is being in college with limited funds and limited space. I grew up in Louisiana and moved to Texas in 8th grade, so I am a proud Southerner!!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints but that is not the main reason I am still an active member today. When I was a teenager (about 15) I developed an attitude problem like many teens do. I really questioned the church at that time. I still went to church, but my heart wasn't really in it. For a while I was annoyed and hung up on all the "rules" the church set. I was embarrassed to tell people I was a Mormon because of what they might think. Regardless, while I was in church and when I listened to what was being taught, I could not deny the feeling I felt. I knew in my heart it was true. I felt indescribable peace and love. My leaders at church always told us that we could not lean on our parents testimonies forever. We needed to ask God for ourselves if this church was true. We were taught that if we ask God with a sincere and pure heart, He would answer our prayers. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." (James 1:5) So I did it. I got on my knees one night and prayed to my Heavenly Father. I asked him if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was the true church. I asked Him if the Book of Mormon was true. I asked Him if Joseph Smith really was a prophet of God. I did not hear a voice in my head, I did not have angels appear to me, but I felt peace. I felt God's love and I felt joy. It was an undeniable that God had answered my prayer. His answer was: Yes, It is true. All of it. As I continued to go to church and learn more and more, my testimony grew. I felt that same feeling over and over again. Compared to the year of my doubting and resisting the church, I was amazingly happy. As I continue to live the principles we are taught in the church today, my testimony continues to increase and be strengthened daily. I am able to feel God's love for me and others every day. I know with a surety that the Gospel is true.

How I live my faith

One thing I love about this church is that the members are so supportive of each other. We all do our part to help each other learn and grow. One way we are able to do this is through callings that are given to us through inspiration from the Lord. I have served in many different callings, but one of the most significant ones was as a teacher for the women in our congregation. I loved discussing how the principles we learn from the scriptures can be applied to their lives and the lessons and experiences they have had from it. I was able to connect with these ladies and had the opportunity to better serve and support them.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I have received so many blessings from studying the words of the prophets in the Bible, Book of Mormon and other scripture. One of the biggest blessings I have received is the growth of my testimony in the Gospel and my desire to be more like Jesus Christ. While studying the scriptures, I am able to learn more about God's plan for me, His commandments, and His Son Jesus Christ. After I read the scriptures, I always think of how what I just read can apply to me in my life.By feeling the promptings of the Holy Spirit paying attention to thoughts and feelings that come into my heart and mind, I am able to learn more about how to become better. Acting on those promptings bring so many blessings of change for the better in my life. I am able to become the young woman Heavenly Father wants me to be. The scriptures bring more happiness, peace and love in my life than I can describe. Always act on the righteous feelings of your heart and you will be blessed more than you could ever imagine.
