Hi I'm Jan Sandbakken

I am a wife, mother and grandmother, a gardener and bird lover. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Idaho. I am the ninth child of the ten children in my family. Eight of those children are girls. My parent's family is now huge and I love getting together and seeing how the generations are growing. I have been blessed with a wonderful husband and six of my own children. Now I am learning to be a doting grandmother. I delight in seeing my grandchildren and watching them play and learn. Some of the things I enjoy doing is reading. I'm always looking for a new literary friend at the public library. Gardening is passion of mine. My children tease me about my garden empire, because I have a bad habit of taking over neighbors' unused garden plots. Taking my little terrier for walks is a daily must and feeding the backyard birds always makes me smile. I'm a Mormon

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have found the truth in its precepts. As a gardener I love to watch seeds and plants grow into their full potential. I know when I see a tree producing delicious fruit that it is a good tree. "By their fruits ye shall know them." is a true scripture! When I look at the church and the gospel of Jesus Christ, I look for the "fruit" that comes from it. I look at all the good things that happen within the church and the lives that are blessed and I know that it is a good place to be. I have felt the spirit of the Holy Ghost helping me through my own trials, and teaching me as I pray and read the scriptures and with the choices that I make. Our Heavenly Father has given us the Plan of Happiness. I have found peace and happiness in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I love the Savior! I desire to be like Him someday. I do this by trying to develop the habits and traits that I believe will bring me closer to Him. I love to read from the scriptures and church magazines. They inspire me and help me be better. I live close to a temple and go there to do work for the dead as often as I am able. While I am in the temple I feel immersed in peace and love. I know that love that I feel comes from our Heavenly Father and His Son. One thing that is important to me is to serve my neighbors. All of us go through times of struggle and trials. They are an important part of life that helps us grow stronger, but none of us has to go through these times alone. It is so important to help where I can, even if it is only to take a loaf of bread in to a new mom or a dinner to someone who has had a illness or death in the family. I am trying to learn that sometimes I can go empty handed and offer a hug and a shoulder to cry on. I have the opportunity in our church to lead the women in meetings and activities, and to occasionally teach. I love those opportunities because they encourage me to ponder and grow spiritually. My most important way that I live my faith though is in my home, raising my children and being a wife. I am so grateful that I can do that. I know that my decision to be a mother and to raise my children to love the Savior and to strive to reach their full potential has pleased my Heavenly Father.
