Hi I'm Bruce

I'm a father, a teacher, and I love making kid's toys.

About Me

I am married, fifty nine years old, father of two girls and grandfather of five. I am a retired special education/ shop teacher, woodworker, Special Olympics coach and Boy Scout scoutmaster, and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My wife and I are currently preparing for an eighteen month mission to the nation of Malaysia. And, yes, we had to go to a world map to find it. Our current world travels include Mexico and Branson, Missouri. We are a lot scared and a little excited, but we trust the Lord can use us to lift the Malaysian people.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the church all my life but have not followed blindly or participated without study and prayer and struggles. Through those struggles I have come to recognize the warm, reassuring feelings I get when I search the scriptures, ask my Heavenly Father for guidance, and attend church. Those warm feelings or the Holy Ghost tells me when I am on the right track and, for that matter, when I am not. I know I am happier and life seems to go better when I am living as the Lord directs. As a member we are asked to serve in various ways. I mentioned scouting but I have also been asked to teach sunday school classes and even help install a new roof for an elderly woman in the congregation. I have never sought a position in the church and often have felt inadequate in serving, but I have felt the Lord's help often. He makes up the difference, I have come to know the Lord through seeking His assistance and receiving it. The Lord is real and He does care about us. He wants us to grow, become better, stronger, more like Him. The church helps me stretch, helps me to be a better me. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is His church.

How I live my faith

Through the years at church I have been asked to help with various programs, probably the "calling" I enjoyed the most was helping with scouting. I was not an avid outdoorsman prior to the call but found out that hiking and camping and survival stuff is OK and working with the youth, being part of a young man's life at such a important time is wonderfull. I get far more out of helping with the youth than I give them. Yet this is not something that I would have sought out on my own. I live the gospel of Jesus Christ as best I can. I am trying to apply the principles taught in the scriptures and at church. It is not always easy and I do not always do as well as I should, but I keep trying. When faced with life’s challenges often the Lord, through his church, has blessed me with hope and patience and perspective. The Church of Jesus Christ has been a very positive thing in my life.
