Hi I'm Emily

I'm a college student, I love to play sports, listen to music, spend time with my friends, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student, trying to make it from one day to the next. I love spending time with my family and friends and find a lot of joy in staying active, being creative, and listening to music. I converted to the church when I was 18 years old, and it has turned my world upside down, almost like doing a 360. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has become a major turning point in my life and it has become the foundation that I make almost all of my decisions off of.

Why I am a Mormon

I first learned about the church when I was 15 years old, and it was one of those things that never went away. We have all had that annoying song in the back of our heads that we just can't get to go away; the church was the annoying song. After years of wanting to know more, but being afraid to, I contacted the missionaries and met with them. The most important thing they taught me was that God is our loving, Heavenly Father and we are his literal children, and through the sacrifice that his son Jesus Christ made, we can return to be in his presence for forever. My freshman year of college I developed a drinking problem that I thought I was just going to live with, no matter what I did I always went back to drinking. The feeling I had when I would meet with the missionaries was that I wanted to change, and through the things they have taught me I have been able to change, and I also know that I have been forgiven for the mistakes that I have made. I am a Mormon because whenever I go to church, it's like coming home after a really long trip and I can finally take a deep breath. I'm a Mormon because I can feel God's love for me when I live the principals of the Restored Gospel. I'm a Mormon because It's what makes me happy!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by magnifying my callings. In the church we have these things called callings; they are, in the simplest terms, responsibilities given to us that help build up the church. My particular callings are branch missionary, a secretary for the local women's organization, and Family Home Evening coordinator. All of these responsibilities give me an opportunity to serve the people around me and to be an instrument for good in the hands of the Lord. I also live my faith by living the commandments given to us. I find a lot of comfort by staying true to the promises I've made to my Father in Heaven.

What are Mormon temples used for?

Emily
To Mormons, temples are the literal House of the Lord where we can learn more about where we came from, why we are here on earth, and where are we going. In the temple we receive ordinances. Ordinances are outward acts for inward commitments, i.e. baptism. Through these ordinances we can learn more about the Savior and what he has done for us. These ordinances are done for the living, as well as the dead. The main reason that we participate in these ordinances are to bind families together. Show more Show less
