Hi I'm Madi

I'm serving a mission in Canada. It is the fastest learning curve I've ever had spiritually and the most rewarding experience.

About Me

I'm a recent college graduate looking forward to serving a mission for my church. I love my job as a mentor at a treatment center for girls. I love hiking in the mountains near my city, baking bread when I'm stressed, and turning strangers into friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon, and my home life was simple and happy because it was centered around the teachings of Jesus Christ. I believed what my parents taught me and I made choices accordingly. When I went to college, I found many of my beliefs and resolves challenged by the betrayal of friends, heartbreak, and the stress of adult responsibilities. It was in these challenging times, that I felt I could no longer rely on my parent's beliefs and that I needed to know for myself what was true and what would bring me peace and happiness. I prayed more fervently for God's help and direction than I had as a youth. I testify that Heavenly Father heard my prayers. Although he let me have challenges so that I could develop more depth and understanding, he helped me feel that he was with me and that I was not alone.

How I live my faith

My congregation: My ward, or church meeting congregation, is made up of unmarried, young adults, a Young Single Adult Ward. Going to a Single's Ward provides me the opportunity to make friends, meet, and date other young adults. Many of us are in college or recent graduates. My responsibility withing my congregation: With a handful of other women, I plan meetings, lessons, and activities with a focus on the women's needs in our ward. I also attend Monday night activities where we do activities like making s'mores around a bonfire, visiting our nearest temple, and playing sports, and service projects. This is a good way to make friendships within our church group and invite others to have fun with us.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Madi
As a university student I studied Human Nutrition, but my belief in taking care of my body started when I was taught about the Word of Wisdom as a child. The Word of Wisdom is health-related revelation from God given to the prophet Joseph Smith. As part of my college education, I spent a few years studying the way that substances we consume affect the way our body performs, but I have learned that the Word of Wisdom its about more than physical health. Our bodies are the homes for our spirits. I've learned that when my body is healthy and independent of addiction, my thoughts and feelings are clearer and I am more free to make choices that are wise for my future. In this way, temperance is more about maintaining, not restricting, my freedom. Show more Show less
