Hi I'm Paul

I own an engineering consulting business, enjoy people, building complex systems, spending time with my family, and I am a Mormon!

About Me

I was raised in Dubuque Iowa and enjoyed wandering the bluffs and rolling hills of the Mines of Spain natural area and fishing with friends on the Mississippi river. In my early twenties while in Dubuque, I worked as a bartender and for Dubuque Packing Company. In addition, I spent several summers working in Copper Harbor Michigan at various restaurants and resorts and enjoying the great outdoors. After finishing college with a computer science degree, I began work in engineering support and moved to the Chicago area, then to Carlsbad California and then back to Iowa in 1989 where I met my wife and began a family. I have been working in engineering for over twenty five years supporting business infrastructure and designing systems in the Aerospace and Defense industries. I currently own an engineering consulting business and enjoy solving problems and building complex systems. I was not raised in the Mormon Church but will provide some details in the Why I am a Mormon section on how I learned of the church.

Why I am a Mormon

I was taught by some friends in the church how to pray and receive answers. We spent a few hours discussing the format of prayer, discernment, and the importance of Christ as the mediator. We prayed together and I began to discern answers to my prayers I began to prayerfully study the Bible and as I studied I was guided to topics related to my life that were not in line with the teachings of Christ I realized I had a choice to make, to do as I had done, or to change and live by the teachings in the scriptures. I began to cease from the diversions of life that did not conform to the guidance of the scripture, and to faithfully follow what was written I was guided to the Gospel of John, where I began to ponder “What is the meaning of the holy Ghost?” One night in late 1997 I felt the spirit come round about me, and heard “Are you really ready to know the meaning of the Holy Ghost?” I could feel a great weight as it penetrated to the very depths of my Soul. I answered: “that if it be thy will, yes, I would really like to know the meaning of the Holy Ghost”. At once I felt a wave of peace and contentment wash over me, and knew I was going to get an answer to this question A few weeks later I was again visiting my friends and as we knelt down together in prayer to identify what topics to study and discuss, I received “lessons” which made me wonder. We asked for clarity, and at the direction of my friends we asked if the lessons were for me to receive the missionary discussions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As we asked this specific question, I felt the most powerful “YES” answer that I had ever felt while praying We invited the missionaries over to teach me about the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the coming forth of the Book of Mormon. As the missionaries taught me, I was continually crosschecking prayerfully about what was being presented, and throughout all the discussions the Spirit confirmed very strongly their message was true

How I live my faith

While in the Midwest our family has enjoyed visiting the Church sites in Nauvoo and seeing the many performances and pageants. Living in Utah we have had the opportunity to enjoy attending several general conference sessions and other cultural events. We have continued in prayer constantly seeking to do the will of Heavenly Father and to continue receiving guidance as to where he wants us to be and what he wants me to be doing. I have had the opportunity to serve in many different callings and have especially cherished the callings to work in the temple. I have worked to gather the genealogy of my family and help those who have passed on to the other side of the veil. I greatly enjoy spending time studying the scriptures, being taught from on high and performing the labors of the Spirit.
