Hi I'm Sam Barney

I'm an average kid from Utah. I'm a currently a full time missionary in Japan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm eighteen years old and I'm currently on a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kobe, Japan. I spent the five months before I left for my mission attending Brigham Young University. I love playing volleyball, basketball, soccer, and really any sport out there. I also love music, I'm a singer and have always loved singing with my family! Of course I love teaching the gospel, along with living in a way that allows me to always feel the Holy Ghost. I've been spending a lot of time lately studying the Japanese language so that I can better communicate, and I am doing my best to love Japanese food as well!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a Mormon, but I that is not why I am a Mormon. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I have felt the power of our Savior's love personally touch my life. It is real, and as I have read the Bible and the Book of Mormon the Spirit of God has entered into me and enriched my life. It has shaped my decisions and made trying to obey God not just what I do, but who I am. This Church brings light, happiness and love to me and my family, as well as eternal improvement. I am grateful for it, and I believe it with all my heart.

How I live my faith

Right now I am serving a full time mission for the Church in the Kobe area of Japan. As missionaries we are not paid, it is a volunteer position. We support and participate in free service events, as well as serve the people living in our area. We also have the opportunity to teach those want to know more about the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ. I chose to serve for two years of my life because I have a happiness in my life. I have a peaceful reassurance that allows me to smile through any circumstance. And I know that anyone anywhere in the world can have that same peace.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Sam Barney
As an LDS missionary, I proselyte because of the impact that the teachings of Christ have had on me. The perspective of the gospel raises you up to a higher level. With this perspective, you are able to endure hard times, and find joy in the everyday grind. When I see others without this perspective, and I see the hard things they are suffering my heart hurts, and I can't help but want to share the source of my power to endure, and the source of my joy. So as missionaries we look for those who need that perspective, and who want that joy. Show more Show less
