Hi I'm Sam

I'm a language-enthusiast. If I'm interested in something, nothing will stop me. I love everyone I meet. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Although I would describe myself as "shy," if you were to ask one of my friends to describe me, he would probably tell you I am one of the most outgoing people he knows, as I love everyone I meet, and I love telling everyone how much I love them. In addition to people, I love learning languages and have taught myself German, Spanish, French, American Sign Language, Dutch and Danish. I am interested in biomedical engineering and am trying to decide if I want to go to medical school. I have been an exchange student in Germany and the Netherlands and helped build a school in Bolivia. I have friends all over the world and I talk to them frequently. When I have free time, I will usually spend it learning a language, playing piano or guitar, skiing, mountain biking, writing, building robots or doing something awesome with my friends or family. I am serving mission in Copenhagen, Denmark for two years starting in fall of 2015.

Why I am a Mormon

I have had many trials in my life. Our family has had many medical problems and we have had many hard times and dramatic changes. In times of struggle and of pain, it is so easy to get down and sad and ask "Why me?". The pain and sadness of death and sickness are so overwhelming. Alone, I could not overcome this fear as I felt like I was slipping and falling into the darkness of the world. So I reached out for something. After studying and thinking about the scriptures and the prophet Joseph Smith, I humbly asked God in a prayer if the Book of Mormon were true. I was overwhelmed by His perfect love and peace and instantly knew that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith is a prophet. As I have learned and come to better understand His gospel, my life has become so much more than I could have imagined, and become much happier and joyful, too. His gospel and His truths provide an unmoving anchor for me as I live my life. Through everything, the gospel has never changed -- I can always look to it for a constant support throughout life. Through the hardest struggles of my life, the only thing which kept me going was the simple, beautiful truths of His gospel: That He lives; That Christ has overcome death and sin, and sacrificed Himself for me; That He loves me perfectly, far more than I can even comprehend; That through His power, I can see my loved ones again and live with God and my family forever in perfect happiness; That through Him, all my mistakes are forgiven and I can move forward; That these things will never change, and apply to every single person who has lived or will ever live. These truths bring such great joy into my life, in the good times and in the bad, and every time I reach for Him for strength or comfort or help, He is there and gives me far more than I could ever find for myself. He has supported me and loved me in a way that cannot be found anywhere else. Through trials and challenges, He has given me love and a perfect peace.

How I live my faith

I enjoy telling others how great they are and helping them feel loved, by being a friend, serving others, and spreading positivity. I have organized and participated in many service activities, from building a school in Bolivia to gathering a group of people together to support friend recovering from surgery. In my ward, I help organize and plan youth activities and assist others with family history research. I spend part of every day studying the scriptures and can feel peace and His infinite love when I read them. I look to God through prayer for comfort, protection, strength, guidance, and truth every day and find happiness and peace when I attend church. I will be serving as a missionary in Copenhagen, Denmark for two years starting in fall of 2015 to help others find happiness and joy through Him and His gospel.
