Hi I'm Shawn Allen

I grew up in Huntington Beach California. I am a recent convert as of August 3rd 2013 and going on a mission to Hermosillo Mexico.

About Me

I am a convert into the church my best friend from childhood introduced me and I slowly learned more and more about the church until gaining a testimony. I am currently about to serve a mission in Hermosillo, Mexico. My favorite genre of music is ska and surfing is a big part of my life. I love this church and everything it stands for. I can't wait to spread the gospel with others.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, because I believe in the teachings of this church. When I was 11 my best friend Michael whom I had known for many years had decided to invite me into the church. I had no idea what in the world a "Mormon" was, but I knew it meant that Michael could not do anything on Sundays so I decided that if I went to church that I could hang out with him for three hours that day. I did not attend often, but went whenever asked. Later he invited me to join boy scouts. I did not know that this Boy scout troop was through the church, but I joined anyway so that I could hangout with Michael. Eventually when I turned 14 our boy scout meetings on Wednesday nights at 7 turned into mutual and I had not even known. (mutual is a group activity where the boys and girls of the ward do different things and learn different skills) Once in high school I somehow made a ton of Mormon friends and decided to take the discussions and learn more about the church. As a young kid I had a small attention span and did not receive much from those lessons. The more I attended church though the happier I became I went to mutual every week I went to all of the dances I participated in all the service projects and by the time I hit senior year I was attending church daily in a white shirt and tie, going to seminary, mutual, and applying to go to BYU and BYU-I. I had gained a testimony from studying and learning more about the gospel until that summer I finally had gotten baptized.

How I live my faith

Our wards are always having service projects and other activities to do to help out the community. I like to participate in helping out in as many as I can varying from helping somebody move to a new house to starting up a fundraiser to help people. I volunteer as much as I can in my ward and they help me back for example the ward helped me complete my eagle scout project which was to help improve my high school. I visit teach every month and am always there to serve.
