Hi I'm Deon

I grew up in a wonderful family that taught me about my Heavenly Father. I believe in Him. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a large family being the 2nd child of 9 children. One of my brothers died when he was only 3 months old. I had just learned how to take care of babies at the time. It was a shock to me that he passed away. I knew from then that there was a plan from my Heavenly Father when my mother and father explained to me where my brother went. I am now married and we have 9 children together. They are a joy to my life. Even though it is a lot of work caring for the family and preparing meals it is better to me than being alone. I enjoy Mary Kay, trying to keep healthy, art (painting), helping others and keeping my home clean. Being a stay at home mother has had its challenges but supporting my husband in what he wants to do and taking care of the children has been a blessing in my life. I recently went back and received my Bachelor degree to help our family earn a better living now that my youngest child is in school. I now participate in an A Capella Chorus to share my talent in singing.

Why I am a Mormon

Why I am a Mormon is because I found out for my self that there is a Heavenly Father who loves me and loves all the people on this earth. I took the challenge to read the scriptures when I was a youth and to pray about them. I grew up in the church and took it for granted until I visited and lived with a nonmember aunt for a summer to have her teach me how to sew. Not going to the church and its activities for the summer for some reason made me feeling down. My aunt decided to take me to my grandma's place since she was closer than my parents place. Even though my grandma was not a member either, I knew her better and told her I just wanted to go to church. She found out where the church was and what time it met, then took me there. Even though I went alone something changed in me knowing that this is where I needed to be. I was happy the rest of my stay because my aunt let me go to the church in her area. I was not homesick like my aunt had thought. Having known the peace and happiness the church had for me when I prayed for the confirmation that the church was true, after I had read in the scriptures especially the Book of Mormon and reflecting on what I had been taught in my life, I had a strong feeling come to my heart as I prayed whether these things were true. I love my Heavenly Father for giving me this testimony that the Book of Mormon is true, of my Savior and his atonement for me along with the strong testimony that he has prophets on the earth today that he speaks through their words for me to follow to follow him. I also know that Joseph Smith did indeed see, speak to, and receive an answer to his prayer when he was seeking for the true church on the earth. You can also read, pray, and seek to know the truth. I know that Heavenly Father will also confirm the truth to you as I have learned.

How I live my faith

Each night before I go to bed I will read the scriptures to help me relax and fall asleep better. Sometimes I will read them in the morning. I love teaching young children so I have helped in the community by volunteering and substituting in the schools. Being a youth teacher in the church is a great reward when I see them doing the things Heavenly Father wants them to do. I love serving my Heavenly Father in each of the callings he has given me from being a teacher, a teacher instructor, leader, music director, or visiting teacher. I love being a visiting teacher to get to know the women in the area of our ward. My favorite calling was teaching music to the primary age children. I try to be an example of Christ by sharing my talent of singing and being a great friend to others.
