Hi I'm Debra

I grew up in Utah. I have been a Mormon all of my life. I have ancestors who crossed the plains with the pioneers.

About Me

I am a wife, a mother of 4 children, and grandmother to 14 children. I like to do lots of things with my children and grandchildren. With my husband, we grow a large garden and can the fruits and vegetables. I like to cook, read and sew. My favorite time of year is autumn. I love the fall colors and the cool weather. I love 60's music - especially the Beatles. I love to travel, but I am afraid to fly! My family enjoys attending The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and serving in our church.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only church that is organized the same as the gospel was when Jesus lived on the earth. Other churches contain some truths, but The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has the fullness of the gospel. I believe that Christ's church was restored in1830 by the prophet Joseph Smith. I also believe that he translated the Book of Mormon, which I believe to be scripture. Our church has had prophets ever since that time. Our prophet today is President Thomas S. Monson. I believe that he holds all of the keys to the Priesthood, and that he is led by the Lord. The Priesthood is the power and authority to act in God's name. I have been a Mormon all of my life. My parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and other ancestors were Mormons. I learned through their righteous examples. I believe that church teachings and church leaders teach my children and grandchildren the things that the Savior would have them do, The atonement of Jesus Christ gives me (and all people) the opportunity to repent. I am grateful to the Lord for His great sacrifice. I know that He loves me, and has directed past prophets to keep records that we may learn from the past. I believe the Bible and the Book of Mormon to be true. I feel that I am blessed and have peace in my life through living the commandments of God.

How I live my faith

At the present time I serve in my congregation (ward) as the Compassionate Service Leader. I am responsible to arrange meals or other service for the sisters. This includes meals taken to the family when the mother has a baby, hospital stays, or illness. It can also include arranging for child care. I also work with the Relief Society President (the leader of the women) when there is a funeral within our congregation. With the help of other sisters, we plan, organize, prepare, and serve a meal to the mourners. I also have the calling of being a Visiting Teacher. I have a partner, and together we visit 3 sisters in our congregation each month. We give a spiritual message and offer any assistance that might be needed. In the past I have taught children, youth and adults in the church. I have also served in leadership positions. In January, my husband and I will begin an LDS mission to New Zealand. We will be gone from home for 18 months. We are excited about this opportunity to serve. Our family has had some serious trials. I know that by having faith in Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ, being active in our church, and staying close to our family has helped us through our trials. My most important calling is to teach my family (mostly by example) that I have a testimony of the gospel, and that by living the gospel principles we can be happy.
