Hi I'm Samuel Marchant

I'm from Salt Lake, I'm a runner, an outdoors-man, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently graduated from West Jordan High School in Salt Lake County Utah. I was very involved at the high school; I ran track and cross country, I was in debate and academic decathalon, and I sang in the choir. I have accepted a scholarship offer to Southern Utah University, I intend to start there right after my mission. I have really developed a love of learning, I am fascinated by some of the recent discoveries in physics and biology. I spend alot of time just watching ted talks, documentaries, or anything that will tell me the latest interesting scientific discoveries. My overall favorite activities are definitely in sports and being outdoors. Most evenings you can find me playing basketball at my local church, and most mornings you can find me running up a trail in the canyon.

Why I am a Mormon

The main reason I am a mormon is because the doctrine that the church teaches is true. It would not matter if it was a painful thing to be a mormon if it was really true, and what God wanted me to follow, it would be my obligation to still be one. But the next great reason for why I am a mormon is that it is not just true, by following the teaching of the church, it improve my life. I am happier, healthier, a more productive citizen because I follow my beliefs. It does not mean I am without troubles, stress, and sorrow, but I know for a fact that I am better able to deal with them because I have followed God’s commandments. For any idealists out there that are looking for the ideal philosophy to live by, this is the philosophy. I know that the teachings of this church are truth. I know that Jesus Christ really was the Son of God. He died in our behalf. Because of him, we can all be made perfect. He was a perfect example to us. With God's guidance, Joseph Smith found ancient records and translated them into the book of mormon. The teachings in the Book of Mormon are the philosophies that God want's us to hear. But we don’t have to take anyone else’s word for it, to know if the teachings of this church are true, the only person we have to trust is God himself. If we ask him in faith, God will show us the truth of all things.

How I live my faith

The biggest way that I live my faith is by how I act in the community and how I treat others. I am certainly not perfect, but my faith has taught me that the most important commandments are to love God and to love my neighbor. In my neighborhood we do service projects all the time, just about every week there is something going on. By loving my neighbor and treating them with respect I am able to live my faith everywhere I go. I also attend church every week. Church is a good way to keep your life focused on what is important. There is always something new to learn, or something that I can be living better, and church is one of the best ways to discover those things. Another important way that I live my religion is through daily prayer and scripture study, and attending the temple. Those are the things that I do to live my religion, but another part is in the things that I avoid doing. As a mormon, I avoid addicting substances such as alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs. My body is a gift from God and I am supposed to do my best to take care of it. I also avoid R rated movies, and anything immoral, perverse, crude, or violent. By avoiding these things I make myself a better representative of Jesus Christ.
