Hi I'm Allyson

I have lived most of my life in Northern Utah and Southern California. I am a student at BYU studying Nursing. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a current student at BYU studying Nursing, and hope to become a Nurse Practitioner. I recently received my call to serve the people of the Philippines Laoag mission. I am absolutely ecstatic!! . I am the second oldest of four children, and I have an elder brother serving in Antofagasta, Chile and two younger sisters. My family is an ordinary, crazy family who loves to play card games and tease each other. A little bit about me- I love everything about nature, and enjoy hiking, camping, and canoeing. The best part of my day is to see the beautiful mountains that grace Northern Utah. I am a music fanatic, and love to play the piano, sing, listen to all sorts of music--especially Alternative Rock. In my spare time, I enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee, reading classic literature, hanging out with friends, and, of course, rocking out on the piano. I love Thai food and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and the Cucumber-Melon scent from Bath and Body Works. That is basically me! :)

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a strong Mormon family, but that is not the reason I am still a member today. I am a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I have had personal witness from Heavenly Father of the truthfulness of the Gospel and the Book of Mormon. I took the counsel given in Moroni 10:3-5 and read the Book of Mormon with an open heart and prayed to know the truth through the Spirit. Each time I have done this, I have received an undeniable and resounding answer from Heavenly Father that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's gospel restored again to this earth. I know that all who follow this counsel with humility and a desire to believe will come to the understanding of the truthfulness of this gospel through the Spirit. Heavenly Father has promised to rain blessings upon those who listen to the Spirit and follow His Gospel. His promises are sure!! I have been so very blessed for abiding by the principles of the gospel, and I know that all who come unto Christ and follow His example will be blessed immeasurably. I know without a doubt that I have a loving Heavenly Father who knows me personally and wants me to return to live with Him. He sent His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ to atone for all of my sins, heartaches, and pains, so that I may be able to return Heavenly Father's presence. It is only through Christ's Atonement and my repentance that I can become clean. I know that Christ's gospel was restored to the Earth through Joseph Smith, and that the Book of Mormon was translated by Joseph Smith through the Spirit. Thomas S. Monson is our current latter-day prophet, called to direct and receive revelation for the church. I have a firm testimony that the Book of Mormon is the Word of God, and that together with the Bible, it witnesses of Christ's divinity and teaches the truths of eternity. If we study the scriptures and apply what we learn, we will draw close to Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints my entire life and love it! I have just recently been called to be a teacher for the women's organization in my ward (aka the Relief Society). I am nervous, but very, very excited to develop new teaching skills. My past participation in church has included: a church choir singer and accompanist, a committee member for the youth group in my stake, various positions in the presidencies of the young women in my ward, and the ward organist. In the upcoming months I will be moving to the Philippines for 18 months as a full-time missionary to share the wonderful message of the Restored Gospel with those who live there. I am so excited for this opportunity!!

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do not worship Joseph Smith. Our church respects Joseph Smith as a prophet of the Lord, just like Moses or Noah are respected. He was instrumental in restoring the true gospel to the earth again; however, the only people we worship are Heavenly Father and His Son, our Redeemer Jesus Christ. We pray to our Father in Heaven in Christ's name, and perform all ordinances through God's power. Show more Show less
