Hi I'm Rose

I grew up in Oregon and now live in Chicago. When I was 17 I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I spent several years of my education focusing on creative writing and literature analysis. I've studied with a number of professors at different universities. I am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in biblical studies and theology. I keep myself busy with nannying, baking, cooking, yoga, reading, church activities, and staying in close contact with my friends and family across the U.S.

Why I am a Mormon

In 2012 I heard a knock on the door and upon answering it I met two missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They asked if they could teach me about their church and I accepted, not because I was looking for a religion, but because I thought it would be fun to learn about something new. As I met with these missionaries, I felt myself growing happier. I felt joy in their presence and I looked forward to going to church with them. When they asked me to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it, I did so. I wasn't expecting anything life-changing to happen, but that's exactly what did happen. My life changed when I read the Book of Mormon and felt something I had never felt before-what we Latter-day Saints refer to as "revelation," or communication from God. For the first time, I recognized the joy I was feeling as the love of God and I knew in my heart that the Book of Mormon was a true book because it brought me to this knowledge of God and Jesus Christ. I was baptized a couple weeks later. I did not know when I opened my door that day that a new life was awaiting me. But I have been so happy since then and I can hardly remember how I managed to live without this church. Every day I feel comforted by the love and support of God. As I read scriptures and pray, I feel very strongly that God is reaching out to me and telling me what I need to hear. I know that He guides me in my important decision making as well as in my daily routine. I feel His love when I am at church among many who believe in Christ. I have often been surprised by the path I've ended up on, but I have not doubted that God is guiding me because He loves me and He knows what I must do to return to Him and experience true happiness.

How I live my faith

The church branch that I attend is small but wonderful. With the help of a few others, I work to make sure the women of the branch are having their needs met and that everyone has someone to go to for help. I often have the opportunity to teach the women of my branch about different spiritual topics. In addition to my official church responsibilities, I try to seek opportunities to show kindness and service to the people I encounter. Whether it's providing comfort for a friend or providing a meal to someone in need, it's important to me to be there for people however and whenever possible. I often spend time with our church's missionaries teaching the people they're meeting with. I pray several times a day in order to show gratitude, ask for help, and feel the Holy Ghost with me. I also study scriptures at least once a day, and I spend time in the holy temple on a weekly basis. I try to keep Jesus at the forefront of my mind throughout my entire day, so that His teachings are never far from my mind and will therefore influence my actions.
