Hi I'm Helen

I grew up on a Dairy Ranch. I am a Christian, grandmother and a quilter. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up feeding calves on a dairy ranch. I live in the city now and l love to read biographies and murder mysteries. I love watching sports. I am a quilter. I work with the scouts in our district and am involved in boy scout district events as Eagle Board, and Advancement Day. My 3 sons are Eagle Scouts. I am a mother of 4, grandmother of 10 of the best grandchildren on the earth. I graduated from college with a BS. I have stage 4 cancer. I have non-hodkins lymphoma. First it attacked my kidney, two years later it attacked my lung. After 1 year of chemo, I had a bone marrow transplant. Its been 12 years since transplant and I am in good health. The Lord has truly blessed me.

Why I am a Mormon

For me being a Mormon means living the gospel of Jesus Christ, as he taught it while on earth and in the scriptures. The gospel answers my questions of Who am I? Why am I here on earth? Where did I come from? and Where do I go after this life? I was raised in a Mormon home as a youth. When I went away to college I had to know for myself if the Mormon church was the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a freshman in college,I prayed and read the scriptures to answer this question in my life. After several months of praying and studying, I was sitting in church asking myself the question...is this church really the true church. The Spirit washed over me and I knew at that moment the Mormon church is the gospel of Jesus Christ. I continue to have good feelings and thoughts as I go to church and serve others. Service is central to living the gospel.

How I live my faith

I work at the Gilbert Temple every Friday morning. The Temple is a place of joy and peace. I love going to the Temple every week. I organize after school activities for the 10-11 year old girls in my church group. We sew, and cook and do crafts and service. We went to Feed My Starving Children and packed food to send overseas. We have 12 girls in our group and they are so fun. We pray everyday in our home, morning and evening and we pray at mealtime a blessing on the food. When I was young I would pray for things to be perfect for me and my family. Now I pray for strength, courage and the ability to see good in all things. I believe in the power of prayer. When I got cancer many people prayed for me when I was sick. I felt the power of those prayers in my life and was strengthened by them. The Lord is close and wants to bless us. I feel His love personally in my life.
