Hi I'm Erik Egbert

I grew up in Oregon and love the rain.I am a football player and a javelin thrower. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was one of very few Mormons in my high school. I played sports all four years of high school and was the only Mormon on the team most of the time. I love to watch and play sports, my favorites are football and basketball. I am very sociable and love to meet new people. I grew up in the church and I love the gospel. I come from a family of six, it is me, my three sisters and my mom and dad. I am serving a mission in Raleigh North Carolina. I am planning on pursuing a career in the medical field. In the winter of 2017 I will be starting school at BYU-I and majoring in chemistry.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because nothing else in life has brought me so much joy and happiness. I was raised in the church. I grew up where every Sunday we went to church. I was baptized at the age of 8 and went on with my life as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When I was 18 I knew for myself that this was the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I knew that this was the most true church on the face of the earth. I knew that The Book of Mormon was true and that it is the word of God. I knew that Joseph Smith was a prophet called of God to restore His gospel. I found all of this out for myself by following the promise found in The Book of Mormon in the book of Moroni chapter 10 verses 3-5 "Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts. 4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. 5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." I testify that this promise is true. By praying about the church and the book of Mormon I knew through the testifying power of the Holy Ghost that it is all true. I want to share this message and the joy the gospel brings to others so that they may ask for themselves and know for themselves the joy and blessings that this church brings to me. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to be an example to those who I come in contact with. I was in a school where there were very few members. Everyone knew I was LDS. This gave me many opportunities to share our beliefs with my friends who were not members. This really strengthened my testimony of the gospel and of missionary work. I am a very social person, so talking with my friends was nothing new, but talking about the church was an amazing opportunity. and as a result I have joined social media and participate in posting statuses. Recently I have been sharing the gospel through social media. I am not worried about how many people will like my status or anything like that. I know that social media is a very popular thing in our day. By tweeting or posting Facebook statuses it gives a lot of people the opportunity to read about the gospel. As a result of this friends have asked me questions about what I am posting. This is a great opportunity to share the gospel, and plant a seed. I am serving a mission in Raleigh North Carolina, and when people ask what I will be doing this fall I tell them I am going to be going on a mission. This too opens up doors for missionary opportunities.
