Hi I'm Amanda Bowles

My life is a great adventure! I'm a happy & sometimes discombobulated mother of 5 and married to my best friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I got married when I was eighteen and have been living my "happily ever after" for the last 27 years! And, FYI, "happily ever after" has bumps, bruises, flat tires and much of the unexpected or life would be boring! For example, our little family didn't start to blossom until after we'd been married 8 years. Then, new little seedlings started to bloom! First, we had two beautiful little girls. Then, we had two wonderful little boys. Each of these came in a nice orderly fashion, about two years apart. Life was good, crazy, but good. We did piano lessons, soccer, scouts and baseball. We did homework, oh, so much homework! We did chore charts...those didn't work so well! We did "Beanie Babies", LEGOs (little LEGO bricks and pieces everywhere), all things Disney and RoBlox. We were moving right along. We had one in Elementary school, one in Middle school and two in High School. Time for mom to go back to college! Slow and steady, a class or two a semester and my goal was to graduate from college before my oldest daughter. At 42 years of age Algebra was making me tired and nauseous. Here comes the unexpected. We had a late bloomer! Ten years after our last baby boy a new sprout appears...another boy! Final score: Girls (2) Boys (3) We are doing it all again and loving it. Life is good!

Why I am a Mormon

I was lucky and blessed to be born into a family that belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or "Mormons". I chose to be baptized by my dad when I was eight years of age. I continue to choose to follow the teachings of the gospel. Through the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I know I am a child of God. I know my Heavenly Father loves me and knows me. This knowledge gives me comfort, peace and courage. The gospel of Jesus Christ is what guides and directs the choices I make. It anchors me when challenges arise. And, challenges do arise. That's why we're here on earth. To learn and grow and be stretched. It's through this stretching that I've grown the closest to my Father in Heaven and our Savior, Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for the gift of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. His Atonement is personal to me. With all of my imperfections and weaknesses, I know He loves me. I am a Mormon because living by the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ brings me joy.

How I live my faith

"Random Acts of Reaching Out" is what our women's group calls it. It can happen in the grocery store when you're taller than the lady who is trying to get that box off the top shelf. Maybe it's a word of encouragement and praise to the young mother with the tantrum throwing child in Target. Could be a sincere compliment to a teen age girl with braces and that darn acne. Surely it's visiting a neighbor who's bedridden or taking a dinner to a new mother and her family. Notes are always nice. Smiles go a long way too! Don't have to know the person to reach out. Strangers are just friends you haven't yet met.
