Hi I'm Derek Smith

I fly fish and bow hunt. I love Jeeps, BYU- Idaho, and going on spontaneous adventures. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like my nights starry, my days sunny, and my life country. Spending time in the outdoors is where it's at! I love all those outdoor activities. I used to run a fishing store on the weekends and that was one of my favorite jobs. I also was a first mate for a fishing charter captain one time, that was a cool job as well. I have learned a lot about life from fishing. The best fishing I have ever done is out here in California where I am currently serving a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." I have seen so much peace and happiness come into my life from serving a mission. Missions are hard but they teach you so many things and you grow so much as a person. Bringing souls unto Christ through baptism or in other words, being a "fisher of men" has brought me so much joy. I have been blessed to have taught and baptized people from all around the world and from different walks of life. The Gospel of Jesus Christ gives me a clear direction to my road map in life. Finishing my mission strong this December and i'll be headed back to BYU Idaho this January and you bet i'll be doing some more fly fishing. I can't wait to get the Jeep dream as well and go on those road trips down to Utah and to Moab! I will be continuing my career path with Business as well.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know this is the true church. It is the same church Christ established when He was on the earth. Those simple truths that were lost when Christ and His Disciples died, have been restored to the earth. We have the fullness of the gospel once again on the earth. I know God is our Father and He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He wouldn't leave us in the dark, and not give us prophets or modern day revelation to guide us in our lives. We have a living Prophet on the earth to teach and guide us. We can find out that these things are true by reading the Book of Mormon. I have read it many times, and I have received the answer multiple times that it is true. I love getting that answer. I know Christ died for me, and for that I am eternally grateful. By living the gospel of Jesus Christ and using the Atonement in my life, I have found true happiness.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by following Christ daily. "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." I share my beliefs with people that I come in contact with on a daily basis as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have learned that as I serve others and teach people about the truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, I lose myself in the work, and I find myself. True joy comes from living the gospel!

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Derek Smith
You betcha! I find peace and comfort knowing I will someday find my eternal companion and be sealed in the House of the Lord for time and all eternity. If we live our lives righteously, follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and endure to the end faithfully, we will live with our families in heaven forever, and I know this to be true. Show more Show less
