Hi I'm Adam McGurk

I live in San Jose California, I'm a waiter, a radio DJ, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am a waiter at a Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant and a radio DJ at a country radio station. I love country music and sports. I served a mission in the Massachusetts Boston Mission and plan to attend school locally in San Jose.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, because I know that God is my literal Spirit Father. He cares about me and wants me to do well in life and have joy. In order for me to fulfill my fullest potential, he sent his first born son, of his own sire-ship, to come and completely pave the way for me. The way has been prepared, and salvation is free (2 Nephi 2:4) because of Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God. I also know that the Church of Jesus Christ, the very church that existed when Christ was on the earth, has been restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. He is the Prophet of this dispensation, just as Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Moses were all the Prophets of their dispensations, Joseph Smith is also. We revere Joseph Smith as the Ancient Israelites revered Abraham and especially Moses. Not in an attitude of worship, but in an attitude of gratitude for what he did for us. Through Joseph Smith came a book of Scripture similar to the Bible called the Book of Mormon, which is another Testament of Jesus Christ, just as it says on the cover. I can also testify that I have read it and have found the truthfulness of it. The Book of Mormon is correct in every way and can be both used as a history book and a book of religious text. On every page you can find not only truth, but truth inspiring you and I to follow Jesus Christ. I invite all to read the Book of Mormon and to pray and know its truthfulness. I can also testify that the very power of Christ has not left this earth. I have seen miracles through the power of Christ (correctly called the Priesthood) and through the Holy Spirit of God, I have performed miracles, using this Priesthood. This Priesthood also contains the power to baptize and to perform the Holy Ordinances necessary for Salvation. For whomever is reading this, I urge you to heed and love the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

How I live my faith

I served a mission for my church in the Massachusetts Boston Mission, but that phase of full time missionary work is over. These days, I try to be the best example I can be. I'm not very good at it, but I try. And that's what's important. I learned early on in my committed faithfulness, that we should never let others decide our standing before God. I try my best to not allow people shake my conviction, but of course I fail sometimes. The important thing is that we continue to try.

What is the difference between attending a church and attending a temple?

Adam McGurk
For me the difference is what we learn. It is a "milk before meat" situation that Paul taught about. At church, we teach as if that day is their first time in church (because many times, there is somebody there who has never been before), but the temple is taught to the believer who already knows something and is ready to learn more and in the process make higher promises with God.
