Hi I'm Michael

I grew up in Peru. I'm a father of 5 boys. My favorite book is the Book of Mormon. I love playing with my kids and playing soccer.

About Me

I have been married almost 11 years. Aurelia and I have 5 boys. Aden, Asher, Andrew, Abram, and Ammon. We feel so very blessed. A lot of people her in California are surprised that we have so many children. We get comments like, you have your hands full. Aurelia and I chose to have children because we wanted to take part in God's plan in bringing his spirit children to the world to a loving family. It is a growing experience each day and we are so grateful for it. Aurelia stays home with the children and that is the toughest job and I work as an Engineer for a communications company in Carlsbad.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was in my late teens, I was unhappy with life even though I had the things world considers to provide happiness. I was taught to pray as a child but did not pray regularly. So, because I felt unhappy I would occasionally pray and complain to God about my sadness. However, I remember praying to my Heavenly Father one day being tired of this sadness and expressed to him that I was willing to do something different in my life if He would make me happy. What I promised him to do was extremely surprising to me. I indicated that I would read in the Book of Mormon every day. With much surprise of what I had just promised God I decided that that is what I was going to do. Nevertheless, the first few nights, I recall going to bed not remembering my promise. However, I would be awakened by a thought like, ‘Michael, you promised me that you would read’. Then, I would drag myself out of bed and would read one or two verses. This experience happened more than once the first few weeks. Other nights I would read page after page and chapter after chapter. I started enjoy what I was reading. After doing this for some weeks, I remember pausing during the course of one day and thinking, wow, I feel happy! I also was praying to know if this Book was really the word of God. I remember praying about this consistently. On one particular night, I remember asking God, is the Book of Mormon true? At the moment I asked I had a strong feeling of the Spirit of the Lord and I knew that the Book was really from God. The feeling I had is difficult to explain. I felt this energy flowing through me. I remember laying down on my bed and exclaiming with a feeling of certainty: wow, it is true! It is true! I knew that God had answered my prayer. This was a huge life changing experience for me. As I have continued to study from this book of scripture every day and strive to apply its teachings my Father in Heaven has continue to bless me. He has filled me with peace especially as I do His will.

How I live my faith

My faith is part of everything I do. Each day, the first thing I do when I wake up is talk to my Heavenly Father. I love feeling close to Him. After my prayer is done I study His words in the Book of Mormon. These words fill my heart and I feel energized and be a force for good in the world.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Michael
The atonement of Jesus Christ brings us at one with Christ and our Father in Heaven. It allows me to not only overcome sin but to overcome weaknesses. In addition, it allows me to exercise faith in the Lord by learning Christlike attributes such as patience, submissiveness, kindness, etc. This process is explained in Mosiah 3:19. When Jesus prayed to God for his apostles (John 17) he asked that they would become one with Him as He and the Father are one. Furthermore, He asked that others will also become one with Him and our Father. So, the atonement or at-one-ment of Jesus Christ allows us to change to be more like Him each day of our lives. That is what the atonement does for me and you. When our beloved Jesus Christ performed the atonement He did two things. He overcame physical and spiritual death. Because He overcame physical death each of us will resurrect with a perfect and immortal body. Because He overcame spiritual death (separation between God and us) each of us has the opportunity to exercise faith in Him by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel. I know that He loves you and me. I know that it is only through Christ that we can be saved and return to our Heavenly Father. I love the following scripture that goes along with this. Mosiah 3:17 "And moreover, I say unto you, that there shall be no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent."
