Hi I'm Joy

I love books, science fiction and computers. I am mother to 3. I am a Mormon convert. I currently serve as a ward missionary.

About Me

I am mother of three children in the autism spectrum. No matter what "label" is given me and my children, I know we are still children of God. God wants no less for us than he would want of anyone else. I am a divorced domestic violence survivor. I did not grow up in a church but was exposed to many religions as I became an adult.

Why I am a Mormon

I met three sets of missionaries before I was ready to convert. I did not meet them until I was a stay at home mother of 3 with children under 5. The first set were turned away because my husband was Hindu and did not wish me to have contact with anyone or go to any church. The next set of missionaries I welcomed and enjoyed discussions about God. But I moved away suddenly without much warning further than their bikes might have been able to take them and before missionaries could have cell phones. The next set of missionaries found me after I had been praying for months for a church where my children and I could worship together. The first day they met me, the Elder prayed for something for me that I had asked God for just the week before. As I learned more, I found many questions answered in what I was seeking in a church home. I had been a minister in a different faith but was uncomfortable with taking money to tell people that God loved them. I had been a practicing Reiki Master and paid to provide healing but felt uncomfortable with that. God is truly the source of all healing. All that is good comes from Him. He heals through our faith in Him, and through the Priesthood of God. It's the power by which He heals.I believe in God, Christ and the Holy Ghost. I believe we DO have so many blessings waiting for us but I do not feel it should ever be quite as simple as saying I believe in Christ or paying for indulgences when we sin. God wants our best and no less.

How I live my faith

I use my free will to make the best choices in my life. I work full time. I go to college online full time. I am constantly taking my children to specialists. I find time to still serve as a ward missionary. I think the message of the church should reach as many people as possible. I even try to bring new people to church or events whenever I can. I do not believe God created an human in his image to be treated as "trash", so I am kind to everyone I meet no matter what.
