Hi I'm Bart

I live in southeast Idaho, but work in Utah. I'm married and have four grown boys and two grandchildren. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband and father of four grown boys. I have two grandchildren. I'm a program auditor with the State of Utah.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a abusive situation and had little hope for life--many times contemplating suicide. When I was in 9th grade I attended a release time seminary group and learned of Jesus Christ and his gospel. While my home situation remained abusive, the good news of the gospel gave me hope that life could be better. Over the years as I studied the teachings of Christ, that hope grew and my growing faith was confirmed with spiritual witnesses. I remain an imperfect human being in need of Christ's redeeming power, but through him I can continue to grow and draw closer to my heavenly father. My faith in Christ, combined with the saving ordinances of the gospel and my daily choices to follow him and serve others continue to give me hope in tomorrow, despite the challenges and trials of life.

How I live my faith

I attend church weekly and have a leadership position with the more experienced priesthood holders in my congregation. I'm responsible to coordinate our fellowship and service activities, as well as the Sunday teaching of our group. I'm also a member of our congregations coordinating council, involved in meeting the needs of the congregation in encouraging all to come unto Christ. During the week we often visit people in their homes to see what their needs are. Every three months or so, my wife and I help clean our chapel. I financially support those serving missions for our church. We pay a tithing of our earnings and contribute to other causes both in and out of our church. Our family holds regular prayer and we spend time each day studying the gospel through scripture study and the reading of other gospel related material.

What is the priesthood?

The priesthood is a tool God gives us to share his power in order to serve one another. It allows us to bless others and perform saving ordinances such baptisms in his name. It does not allow us to circumvent or override the will of God as it is his power and not ours. But, when we act in his name, and according to his will, then we act in his power to the blessing of his fellow children. We believe it is this power that Christ's disciples used to heal the sick, raise the dead, and offer comfort and blessing to the early Christians. We believe it has been restored to the earth and can be used to ordain others in the church with the same power if they live worthy of it and seek it to do his will. While God has ordained that only male members of the congregations can currently receive this priesthood, it is used to bless all members. Women are called to positions of leadership and great responsibility acting under the keys of the priesthood held by priesthood leaders. Show more Show less
