Hi I'm Darryl

I grew up Mormon in Salt Lake, served a German mission, was an Army Medic, married Sue Tyler, adopted 4 children, and work for BSA

About Me

Growing up I loved being outdoors, down hill skiing, back country treking, canoeing, swimming and even met my future wife Sue,at BYU in a class called "Teaching in the Outdoors." As an Army Reserve Medic, I learned respiratory care, which helped afford tuition at BYU. Sue and I spent our first summer together helping to operate a private camp. A few years into our eternal marriage, we found out we weren't going to have kids, Sue wisely prodded me, knowing what it would mean to us to have children. Four in all, and each a treasure sealed to us as an eternal family in the Temple. At 16, my love of the outdoors lead me to work for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). I have worked from them most of my adult life and as its founder suggested, I've been helping to build God's kingdom though Scouting ever since.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I grew up Mormon, but like most church members I came to a crossroads of choice. For me it was in the military; God found me, knew me and helped me. In turn I found his Son, Jesus Christ, through a study of the Book of Mormon and of his own words in the New Testament. Finding a wife who knew Christ and loved his grace was my own most important second witness that I was on right path. Watching the children grow and gain faith has been a further witness to me—thank God, I married someone who wanted children enough to go to great lengths to get them. Each adoption was a chore that ended in joy and gave us a taste of heaven in our own home.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through daily scripture study and regular personal and family prayer. For church service, I am a resource to teachers in nine congregations, helping them learn how to teach as the Savior did. I especially love to teach our youth from the Old and New Testaments, the Book of Mormon and from the words of our living prophets.
