Hi I'm Jamie

I am mother of 5, a teacher, a lover of music, dance, and all things chocolate. . .and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I used to read the profiles on this site of doctors, musicians and Olympic athletes, and thought to myself, "my life isn't meaningful or interesting enough to create a profile." But since that time I have pondered and reflected a lot about what it is that I really do, and I thought to myself, "I have one of the most difficult, and most important jobs in the world!" I am a mother, and that is something to celebrate! I received a degree in both Elementary and Early Childhood Education, and I taught 2nd grade in the public system for a couple of years before my oldest child was born. At that time, I decided to put my public school teaching career on hold, to become a full time teacher to my children. I have been blessed with 5 beautiful kids, 2 sweet daughters and 3 vivacious boys. I am a soccer mom, a dance mom, and my kids piano teacher. I have been blessed to be able to use the things I learned as a teacher to help my children learn to read and improve scholastically. We love playing together, making treats, (especially chocolate treats), watching movies, having barbecues and going on family vacations. Our house is usually full of neighbor kids and friends . We aren't perfect. . . there is teasing that happens and bickering, and at least once a day there's some crisis to sort out. Life at our house is often crazy and loud, and rarely perfect, but It is also meaningful, sacred and rewarding, and I will never regret the decision I made to be a full time mom!

Why I am a Mormon

People call us Mormons, but I prefer our real name, "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints". I'm a member of this church because I know it is the Jesus Christ's true church. It was restored to the earth through modern day prophets, after an era of darkness & confusion when parts of the truth were faded or lost. And it was restored fully just as it was when Jesus was on the earth. It is the most like His ancient church of any church on the earth today, because it is His church. I believe in a loving Heavenly Father who sent us here to learn and grow and to become like him. I know He loves all of His children everywhere and in every day in age. He would not leave them to wander in darkness. He has given us a living prophet to guide us. He has restored his priesthood power to the earth to bless us. The same power used by Jesus Christ and his apostles to bless and heal the sick. Because of this priesthood power, there are those who hold the divine gift of sealing power, the power to bind both in heaven and on earth. It is through this power, and in the holy temples of God, that families can be sealed together not just "until death do us part", but for eternity! He has given us not only the bible but a second witness of Jesus Christ in The Book of Mormon. It, with the bible, provide us with a road map for life. . .divine direction to help us face all the challenges the adversary may put in our way. I love this church. I love the way it makes me feel inside. I love the way it guides my life. I love the way it helps me improve, to be a better wife, a better mother, a better sister, a better daughter, a better neighbor, a better friend. And while I am far from perfect, I know that by following my Savior Jesus Christ and the things that are taught in this, his true church, I am slowly but surely on the right path to be able to return to Him one day. I rejoice in the truth, and I "have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth!" (3 John 1:4)

How I live my faith

I feel that my most important job is to teach my children about Jesus Christ, & all that he did for them. I teach them that it was He who made it possible for us to repent when we make mistakes and to be clean and pure again. He made it possible for us to return home to our Heavenly Father. I teach them that they are children of a Heavenly Father who loves them very much and knows their names. He wants them to pray & really talk to him. He wants to bless their lives. I teach them to keep the commandments and to try to be like Jesus in all they do and say. Each morning we study the scriptures and talk about how they apply to our lives. We pray together. Once a week we sit down and have a "Family Home Evening," where we talk about important gospel subjects, learn together, sing songs, play games, and of course eat treats. I am trying to teach my children the value of service and how it can bring happiness to their lives. We enjoy doing service projects together as a family. I serve in the Cub Scouts in my area. I love it because I get to be with my son and teach both he and the other boys important skills and also how they can use their talents to serve others and do their duty to God. I love to sing in the church choir. My daughter recently joined our choir as well. I love the way good music fills my soul with love and peace. As we share songs with our congregation, I can feel the love of my Savior. I want to share that love I feel with others. I love taking my family to church every week. My husband is a leader in our congregation, so I usually sit alone with my 5 children. Sometimes it's a struggle to hear when I am constantly having to separate children who are poking or pestering each other or when I am intercepting paper airplanes before they go soaring through the crowd, But I do it because of the peace and strength it gives me. I want my children to realize how important that is to their mother. I want them to feel that peace and strength in their lives.
