Hi I'm Devin Gurr

I grew up in Utah. I'm about to head out on a mission to Tampico, México, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have lived in Utah my whole life. I really like to read and my favorite genres are fantasy and science fiction. I also like playing the piano and have taken lessons since I was about 6 years old. I just finished attending high school at Utah County Academy of Sciences and graduated with an associates degree in science along with graduating from high school. I am the fifth of seven children and one of my favorite things to do is be with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and have attended church since I can remember. When I was young I was often bored at church and was happy to get out of the meetings when I was sick because it meant I could go home and watch tv instead of having to dress up and attend boring hour long meetings I knew it was important to go to church but it wasn't really what I wanted to do. My perspective has since changed, I look forward to going to church and though just like anyone else I struggle to get up and bear my testimony every once in a while, I know church is where I need to be each Sunday and it is where I want to be. I love the gospel and have come to better know Christ and my Heavenly Father over the years.

How I live my faith

I have always done my best to serve in the callings which I have been given, I have served in numerous presidencies in the deacon's, teacher's, and priest's quorums. Unlike most I started going hometeaching with my dad just after I turned 13, this was because my brother, Jason, who had been my dad's hometeaching companion passed away. One of my favorite parts of being a priest was taking the sacrament to the widows, or elderly who couldn't make it to church each week, I was lucky enough to be the only priest who could drive other priests to the different home so I got to go almost every week when I was a priest. This year I received my mission call to serve in the Tampico México mission come this October 1st I will be reporting to the Provo MTC. I have to admit I am not just a little bit nervous about serving a mission, but I look forward to the challenge and new experience it will provide. In these last couple of months before I leave my parents and I have made the effort of going to the temple as often as possible, I have been able to attend over 20 endowment sessions since being endowed only two months ago and have visited most of the temples in Utah. I love the peace and spirit I feel in the temple and it has been one of the most important parts of my preparation for my mission.
