Hi I'm Rebecca

I live in Northern New York. I've studied/played in 10 countries. I'm a mom, a wife, and CFO of our household. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to read. My favorite book is Wuthering Heights with Jane Eyre at a close second. Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors although I love reading fantasy and scifi as well. I am growing to appreciate the Book of Mormon more each time I read it. I love music - listening to it, playing it, composing it (when I have time!). I've played the trombone since 5th grade and also play piano, tenor sax, and guitar. I traveled to Europe in high school with a concert band and played concerts in six countries. I am currently in two community bands that I LOVE to play with! It is so fun to give back in some way to the communities and people around me. My son and I LOVE to go to the local libraries to play, read, and participate in a variety of different wonderful programs. I hope to be able to volunteer and give back to them at least a portion of the amazing things they have given us. I have a Bachelor's in Political Science with hopes to get a Master's once my children are grown. I studied abroad in South Africa for 6 months and fell in love with the country and its people, including the members of the church there. I am a first-time mom of a preschooler and have been married for almost ten years. We hope to have and/or adopt more children when the time is right. Our family has gone to the temple together every month for the past ten years and hope to continue. My husband and I look forward to serving a mission together after he retires.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I want my family to be together forever. I have lost many of my loved ones, including my father at a young age, and knowing I can be with them again for all eternity brings me great joy.The blessings promised in the Temple of the Lord are beautiful. We recently had the opportunity to attend Open Houses for the Montreal and Philadelphia Temples and look forward to attending the Hartford, Connecticut one soon. If you have a temple opening near you, please go! It is a beautiful experience and the people serving there are willing to answer any questions you may have.

How I live my faith

I currently serve in Primary, the children's organization, as the pianist. I'm not very good but the children love me anyway don't mind that I'm still learning. Previously I was serving in the women's organization in our church and enjoyed getting to know our sisters and learning alongside them. I try to read the Book of Mormon and pray daily on my own, with my son, and as a family. I know that bearing our testimonies to each other and to those around us help our own to grow and reminds us of the things that are most important. We attend the temple at least monthly and it gives us the strength to make better choices and feel the love of the Lord each day.

What are Mormon temples used for?

The temple is the Lord's house. Every temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is inscribed with Holiness to the Lord The House of the Lord. We dress in Sunday clothes to attend the temple in reverence to our Heavenly Father. We perform sacred ordinances that bring us closer to God. We perform those ordinances for the dead as well so that they have the opportunity to choose to be members of the Mormon church if they did not have the chance to when they were alive. Families are important and so we are sealed together as families all through the generations. Grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins can all be sealed to us so we can be with them forever if we are all faithful. When I have a pressing question in my life or need strength and guidance, the temple is a place where I can go to receive comfort and answers in the peace and quiet of the Lord's house. The worries of the world are paused for those moments when I am in the temple and I come home with a better perspective, a stronger desire to be a better person and to make better choices in my life.
