Hi I'm Yalaina

I'm the second oldest of seven girls. I'm a student. I love serving others. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

A big part of who I am is my family. I am the second oldest of seven girls, so every day is an adventure! Besides spending time with my parents and sisters, I enjoy volunteer work, nature, learning, cooking, dancing, art, and horseback riding. Even though I have never lived in the country, I am a cowgirl at heart! I also love learning about different countries and cultures and dream of traveling around the world. I am majoring in Marriage and Family Studies at my dream school, BYU-Idaho.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a Mormon, surrounded by other Mormons. However, to me being a Mormon was more than a tradition or the "popular" thing to do. It was important to me to gain my own testimony instead of just relying on that of my parents. As I turned to God in prayer, I came to know for myself that the Church is true, that Joseph Smith is a prophet, and that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I am a Mormon because I want to be a Mormon. I can't imagine my life without the Church! Because of the gospel, I have been able to overcome many trials in my life. One of these was shyness. When I was young, I never spoke unless spoken to and when I did speak it was barely above a whisper. I wanted to break out of my shell, but I didn't know how. I often felt alone and completely invisible. I remember thinking that if I died no one besides my family would care, or even notice, that I was gone. But during these times that I got down on myself, I would remember the Savior. Because of the gospel I knew that I could turn to Him for my every care, my every sorrow, my every pain. As I drew closer to Him I found peace, comfort, and hope. I realized that I was never really alone, for the Savior always stood by my side. It took many years to overcome my shyness, but He was with me every step of the way. I have had many other testimony building experiences in my life and I cannot doubt that Jesus Christ lives and that this is His true Church! I am so grateful for my loving Savior and for the great joy and strength His gospel bring me!

How I live my faith

The gospel isn't just a part of my life, it is my life! Each day I strive to strengthen myself through the gospel and follow the Savior's example. I'm certainly not perfect, but I have seen so many blessings in my life from striving to live the gospel and put God first each and every day. I served in the Canada Edmonton Mission from January 2015 to August 2016. It was such a blessing to share the gospel and to see the changes and miracles that occur in the lives of those who learn about and live the gospel. Even though I am no longer a full time missionary, I still strive to do all I can to bring others to Christ.
