Hi I'm Rob

As a teenager my parents moved abroad and I had the opportunity to attend a boarding school in England. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a CFP® and a business owner. I am married and have three children. I enjoy traveling with my wife and kids, as well as running, biking, and walking for exercise. I have been blessed to be able to live in and travel to several countries in the world, and to get to know people from all walks of life in these countries. Living abroad and traveling as a teenager to foreign countries is one of the highlights of my life. Even though I often found myself in new and challenging situations, I learned I could always depend on my Father in Heaven to give me the help I needed. I also learned that even though people speak different languages, live in different cultures, and have different backgrounds to their lives, that everyone has goodness in their hearts.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know it is what God wants me to do. He has answered my prayers so many times and is so involved in my daily life. His Spirit witnesses to me that Jesus Christ is real and that he really did come to earth to make a way for all of us to be forgiven of our sins, and to progress and be able to return to live with Him and our Father in Heaven. Our time on earth is so short and precious. It is the perfect environment to learn how to use the principles of faith and repentance to really get to know God and Jesus Christ. I know they are eager for all of us to work harder spiritually to draw closer to them. They didn't send us here as a punishment or without purpose. They have a plan that can help us achieve the greatest peace and happiness that is possible in the eternities. This life is not a test of their methods and wisdom, it is a test of our mettle. They know the difficulties and disasters that befall us and they know how to turn them into a refiner's fire that can purify us without destroying us. So many people have struggled and are currently struggling through life's difficulties without knowing the truths that God has prepared to help them. And yet it is still so difficult to persuade others of God's truths and to show them how they can obtain them. The truth is that from the very beginning of this world God has been working to teach and help his children with their lives. At times his prophets have had success and at other times they have been killed off by those who love Satan's ways more than God's. In 1830 God and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and instructed him on how to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ again to the earth. This was done to give the people of the earth one more opportunity to have the blessings of the gospel in their lives in preparation for the second coming of Jesus Christ; which is when He will bind Satan and begin the great millennial work that has been prophesied of for so long.

How I live my faith

It wasn't until I moved away from my family and childhood friends to live abroad and attend boarding school in England that I learned what it meant to live my faith. To be a stranger in a foreign land where nobody knew me, my family, or anything about my prior life, was at first a difficult and lonely experience. I was confused and wondered how I could go forward with the situation. But I remembered what my parents had taught me about God being a loving Heavenly Father and about Jesus Christ his Son being the Savior of the world, so I began reaching out for their help in ways that previously I had not done. My prayers became more frequent and sincere. I began reading the scriptures without my mind drifting. I began looking for God's guidance, and changing my life to be more in line with the teachings I was finding. I became more aware of the problems and pain that some of my actions and mistakes had caused for others and myself, and I began to feel more sorrow for my sins and a desire to correct them as best I could so I could better know my Savior Jesus Christ. It was a time of spiritual awakening for me. The words of the prophets starting to have real meaning and they always seems to have the exact message or information I needed. But with each new insight and spiritual experience came new challenges and difficulties and questions. New tests of faith arrived faster than I could prepare and I was forced to choose quickly whether I would respond and act the way God's Spirit was directing or try a more worldly solution. I went to boarding school to get a good secular education. I had no idea that God was waiting for me and preparing an alternative spiritual curriculum for me when I got there. I am so grateful for the relationships I was able to begin developing with my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ during the years I spent in high school abroad. Those relationships continue to this day and I look forward to the day when I can return to their presence.

What is faith?

Rob
To me faith is believing in a teaching or a person so much that it changes your behavior to be an actual example of that truth or person. The principle of faith can be applied by anyone to any situation, however, it is only faith in Jesus Christ that can enable a person to obtain a remission of their sins and to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and his father, God.
