Hi I'm Christine

I'm a bibliophile, a dabbler in crafts, a graduate in Humanities, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love books! I revel in browsing libraries, and my favorite way to spend a rainy afternoon is to curl up within sight and smell of the rain, with a blanket and a delicious book. But my interest doesn't end with books! Although I have limited creative powers, I thoroughly appreciate others' artistic endeavors. I got to study a broad spectrum of them in college: painting, music, dance, film, literature, architecture...you name it, we studied it! It all gave me a greater appreciation for people in other cultures and times. I indulge my own creative impulses by knitting increasingly elaborate projects (of which I'm rather proud), and by dabbling in other craft forms. Of course, none of this is much fun in a social vacuum, and I find my most fulfilling moments in spending time with good friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this church, and grew up having small, sacred experiences. My belief in the absolute necessity to follow God's plan didn't become become really strong, however, until I went through a period of inward rebellion toward God. I've never been so miserable! Everything seemed futile, my love for everyone shriveled, and I couldn't even think about the future with any happiness. Fortunately, God is loving, merciful, and patient, and He kept sending me little helpful experiences until I finally turned back to Him through the Atonement of Christ. Now I know that the greatest happiness comes from obeying God. Counter-intuitively, that is when we are most truly ourselves!

How I live my faith

I try to think well of people consistently, and to find ways to better understand and care for my friends and family. When I was growing up, I heard that a smile can be an act of service. Since then, that has been my favorite was to serve complete strangers! I also participate in planned acts of service organized by my church, such as helping repaint the interior of a care/activity center for the mentally disabled, or doing yardwork for an elementary school. Each morning, I try to have a meaningful personal devotion to God, which gives me strength and purpose for the day. I'm also about to go serve Him full-time as a missionary in Pennsylvania!
