Hi I'm Zeke

I work at Walt Disney World and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a dad of 3. I enjoy photography, gaming, disc golf, NCAAF, NFL, Fantasy Football, computers.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert. I converted over 11 years ago. I had dated a girl that was raised Mormon. We had split up because she moved away to college. But, the whole time we dated, I really disrespected her beliefs, because she couldn't explain why she believed what she believed. Just that she was a Mormon because, "That's how she was raised". When she moved away, she left a Book of Mormon at my house. I found it after I returned home from taking her to the airport. When she called to tell me she landed ok, I told her she left her book. She told me she left it for me. Psssh. It went into the night stand, quickly, not thinking about it till 2-3 months later when she asked if I had opened the book. Not read it, but, "opened" it. Well, needless to say, that struck a chord. So, as soon as we hung up, I went and, "opened" it. And in the few blank pages in the front, she wrote, in her own words, why she believed what she believed. Well, I kind of felt like a jerk. I had decided, because a friend of mine was on the "fast track" to getting baptized, to sit in with his lessons. This way, if anything, I could understand and be more understanding of who she was. And the lessons, really, weren't directed at me. I could sit back in the corner and just listen. Well, by the 3rd lesson, I was hooked. I accepted the gospel, and was baptized on Father's Day 2003. Incidentally, my buddy was baptized on Mother's Day, the same year! I wound up meeting my wife a few months later. And, as they say; "The rest is history." BTW, I still have that Book of Mormon.

How I live my faith

I'm an activities organizer of the, "just the guys" activities. Like BBQ's, Turkey Bowls (Football on Thanksgiving), We try to get together do do a service project at least once every couple of months. I'm also the commissioner of a FF League comprised of some of the men I go to church with. And every now and then, I teach the men and young men organized lessons of the Gospel and how it pertains to us.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Zeke
I was raised to call it, "Sunday Best". But, really, modesty is most important to me and my family than wearing your, "best" clothes. If I see someone wearing a pair of jeans or shorts and a t-shirt to church, it is ok with me. I wouldn't choose to do it, but if that's the only thing I have, that's what I'm going to wear. I believe it's more important to receive the sacrament and gospel than what you wea. Just come, learn, and don't worry about what to wear. Show more Show less

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Zeke
Absolutely. Our church buildings are open to everyone. The main reason to attend church is to take the sacrament. Sacrament is a piece of bread symbolizing the body of Christ; and water, which symbolizes the blood of Christ that was shed for me. By taking the sacrament, I am renewing my faith and promises that I have promised and remember the promises of God and Jesus to me. Usually after sacrament, there are a few announcements and church information to relay. After that there are 2-3 members of the congregation that get up and give prepared, "talks" The talk topics are assigned by our Bishopric. And for the most part, the speaker learns just as much, if not more, than the congregation. Primary classes are for children from 3-11 and Primary is second and third hour. And there is a nursery for children 18 months to 3 years. The second hour is Sunday School broken up into classes based on age for the youth. And by a proficiency level for the adults. The third hour (ages 12+) is broken down first by sex and second by age. Young Women is classes for those 12-17 years old Young Men is classes for those 12-17 Years old Relief Society is for Women 18+ and Elders Quorum and High Priests are for Men 12+ Show more Show less
