Hi I'm Dennis (Dusty) Dastrup

I grew up in Utah, spend 8 years in the United States Navy and own a machine shop

About Me

I am 72 years old and a Father of 5 and Grandfather of 5. My interests include auto racing(Nascar) and scuba diving.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Church. I was a rebellious youth and joined the Navy when I was 17 years old. After being married and divorced and serving 8 years in the Navy, I return to Utah to continue to find my way back to what was good. After getting married again and starting a family, I was returning home one late night after drinking for several hours and hit a parked freight train. The broken bones and missing teeth and the recovery gave me a period of time to think about what I was doing with my life and after much sole searching I made the decision to return to the church of my up bringing. I became very active and served in various calling over the next 16 years and was very blessed and prospered in all that I did. I then made some poor choices in my live and ended up divorced and excommunicated from the church. At the time of my excommunication, I knew that it was the correct thing that needed to done so that I could in time repent and return to the Lord. Over the next 15 years I looked for happiness and satisfaction in all the wrong ways and places. Again after more sole searching I realized that the only way to true happiness and stability in my life I needed to return to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and all the truth it provides. I had lost the peace and understanding of life and finally figured the only way to get it back was to repent and return to the truthfulness of the Gospel. It took a little over a year and I was able to be Baptized. I had, after another year, my Priesthood blessings restored and back to full fellowship in the Church. I know that though all the trails and set backs I have experienced in my life that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints is the only true way to happiness and eternal life. I know that Lord will forgive us all if we will repent and ask for forgiveness.

How I live my faith

I try to live my life in keeping with the commandments of the Lord. I assist in teaching a men's group and use to assist in scouting and our young men's activities. I find pleasure in helping others who are not able to help themselves in the way they want to. I find the more you do to help other the more energy you have even if you have already put in a days work.Ii
