Hi I'm McKinley Benson

I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I love nature, singing, painting, and being silly with my family. I'm a dreamer. And I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am a dreamer! I love doing a little bit of everything! Painting the beauty of nature, photographing the amazing people I meet, teaching others about my experiences, singing, traveling...I absolutely love my life! Hard times are consistently coming my way, but I am so grateful for all I've learned from them. I honestly believe the most important thing is to be happy, no matter the circumstance. I am somewhat of a medical mishap: I have several rare medical conditions, one of which is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). EDS is a genetic connective tissue disorder that makes my body extremely fragile. It has been a long road, but I am learning to manage my pain and take control of what I understand. I try to beat my physical limits and make the most of the beautiful life the Lord has given me. He has blessed me with so many miracles. Music is my inspiration! I have been trained in singing since I was 6 years old, and I love it! Singing is quite possibly by favorite thing on this Earth. I think the Spirit often speaks to us through the words of a song...He has for me anyway. My family is so important to me. My parents are just incredible and my sisters are my absolute joy in life! Spending time with them, singing together, and being ridiculous together is my favorite part of any day! I also really love learning the stories of my ancestors. I earned my associate degree from Snow College, then served in the Salt Lake City South Mission, and now attend Utah State University!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know this is the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know it's the same as it was when He was on the earth. I was raised in a Mormon home, but I chose to be baptized into the church, and I choose to continue that faith now. Jesus Christ has saved my life more times than I can count, both physically and spiritually. I know Jesus Christ is my Savior, and I want to stand in His presence someday. I know the only way to do that is to faithfully follow His teachings and take part in the sacred ordinances of the church. I am grateful every single day that the Lord brought this gospel into my life. I hope the Spirit touches your heart and teaches you that these thing are true. God has brought forth the Church of Jesus Christ in our day, and it is led by a living prophet, just like the prophets of old. The Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ: If you are seeking for truth, please read this book. I read it, and I know the testimonies and doctrines within are true. The Mormon church has helped me find my way back when I make mistakes. Jesus Christ has given me hope...more hope than I knew was possible. He is my Savior and my reason for living. I share my knowledge and beliefs with you in His name...Jesus Christ...Amen.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be like Jesus. I do my best to be kind and help out whenever I can. Part of this is in church, by being a friend to the young women in the ward and by visiting older women in the church. I organize service projects in the community and am a volunteer tutor for high school students. Living what I believe is so much more than spending 3-4 hours at church each week. It is doing my best to be a righteous person and constantly trying to overcome my many mistakes. I also live my faith by choosing to be a missionary for the church! I recently returned from serving in the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission, and I feel so honored to have been able to serve there!!
