Hi I'm Martin Batalla

I grew up in Argentina, I'll study Wildlife and Wildland Conservations. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the third child of 4 (2 sisters and 1 brother), I like to spend time at home and with friends. I really like watching documentaries in the T.V. and learning about various topics. I'm also a football (soccer) fan, and although I support the argentine club Boca Juniors, my favorite club is Manchester United. I do also like being surrounded by nature and seeing green (although I also like technology).

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I feel closer to God by doing so, and I am given hope and relief every day. I want to live with my family for ever, and I know that the only way to do so is by following Jesus Christ and trying my best to obey God's commandments. I was raised from Mormon parents all my life, so many things mormons usually do, I did all my life, nevertheless there was a point in my life (around the age of 14-15) that I noticed I did not know for sure if the church was actually true, I just followed and depended on what my parents believed. I prayed to God, asking that if He existed, then He should let me know, and if the church was true, then He should also let me know, because I didn't want to live in a lie for the rest of my life. After praying sincerely, I just felt comfort and peace in my heart, and suddenly, I just knew that God existed and that the church of Jesus Christ was in fact true, along with the Book of Mormon and all the things is teaches about. I have a testimony that Jesus Christ lives. He came to this earth with a special mission, in order to save us all from our sins. I know that he performed the Atonement and because of this our sins can be forgiven, because I know this, I feel so much hope after doing wrong, because I know that Jesus Christ gives me the ability to stand up again and keep on trying. I also know that he resurrected, and because of that, we will all resurrect and will be able to live with a body and a soul once more and forever. I also would like to say that I know that the church is true, as I also know that the Book of Mormon is scripture, written by prophets such as the Bible, but in the Americas. I know that the Book of Mormon and modern day revelation complement the Bible and let's us see the whole Gospel and plan of God. I am thankful to God because I know I would not have been able to achiev all the things I have done, and I know I totally depend on him in every aspect of my life.

How I live my faith

I am part of the young men's youth group in which we organize activities (such as sports, games, movies, etc.) while we also learn about the gospel and have the same beliefs. I'm also a 'priest', which is an 'office' usually ordained to young men of the age 16-17, and one of our responsibilities is to bless the sacraments every Sunday. I also visit other church members with my father (we are trying to visit certain families at least once a month).

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Martin Batalla
We believe that in order to be saved and life with God and Jesus Christ after this life, we must be baptised. But what happens with those that never knew about the Mormons and never had the opportunity to baptize? They have as much right to the salvation as us, but just couldn't perform baptism curing their life. That is why we baptise for the dead, because we believe they deserve the opportunity to be baptised, and as to be baptised one must have a physical body, we perform the baptism in their representation, so they can end up having the blessings of baptism. The baptism for the dead is something very sacred, so it is done in the Mormon Temple by people who are worthy to enter this place. Show more Show less
