Hi I'm Matty

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I love to be at the beach. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student at Brigham Young University-Hawaii, my major is still unknown but I know I want to travel, take photos, and help others. My favorite movie is Finding Nemo. I pretend that I am a mermaid because I love the ocean so much. I did swim team for 11 years. On October 22, 2014 I start my year an half Church Mission in the Florida Tampa Mission, and I am so excited to serve the Lord.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this is Jesus Christ's Church on earth again. My testimony is a simple one. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true and restored gospel on earth. I gained my testimony when I was 14 years old, yes I was born into the church but I gained my own testimony on my own because I wanted to know for myself. I received a challenge from one of my church leaders to read the Book of Mormon in 6 months, I felt like if I read it for myself that would be my answer to my question. So I began to read, it was hard at first but it got easier and not only that but other things (school, homework, social) in my life got easier too. But I had not received an answer to my question yet. And when I finished I took Moroni's challenge which is, "3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts. 4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. 5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things. Moroni 10:3-5". After I read that, I got on my knees, prayed and I asked if the Book of Mormon is it true. And I began to cry because the Holy Ghost had testified to me the truth. Because I received my answer I know the church was true and I was going in the right path. Since then I continue to reread the Book of Mormon to strengthen my testimony and to keep growing. Knowing that we have the gospel of Jesus Christ makes you realize the more important things in life and all the trials not so hard.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being an example to others, because I live in an area where there are not a lot of other LDS members around, my non-member friends see that I am different by the way I act, talk, and dress. I have had many callings in the Church throughout the years and when I serve others it not only helps them grow closer to the gospel but it helps me too.
