Hi I'm Alyssa

I'm a small town Nevada girl getting ready to go to Sweden to be a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I never know how to explain myself. I am a college student--and athlete: I run track (long distance) and I'm studying in the health field. I just got my call to serve in the Sweden Stockholm mission, and I can't wait.I love sports and being active.

Why I am a Mormon

Luckily, I was born into an LDS family, so you could say I was "born a Mormon". Being born into this church would not be reason enough for me to remain a member. It is not a passive church--there are standards to uphold, meetings to attend, people to serve. So why am I a Mormon? • I'm a Mormon because I have prayed and asked God if this, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is the true church and it has been confirmed to me many times, that it is. • I'm a Mormon because this church provides safety and power that can't be found anywhere else in the world. God loves us and has given us commandments that don't restrict us in any way, but free us from sin and the sorrow that follows. These commandments provide safety that I would not want to face, or raise kids in the world without. • I'm a Mormon because the commandments, standards, temples, and teachings keep me close to God. When I'm doing what's right, I feel Him near me. My prayers are real communication, they are heard and they are answered. • I'm a Mormon because this church provides the way for families to be eternal. God loves us and He knows heaven would not be heaven without our families and people we've come to love on Earth. • I'm a Mormon because this church is focused on Jesus Christ, who is real. He truly atoned and died for every one of us so that we could overcome our sins and overcome death. Because Jesus Christ atoned for us each individually, He understands our trials, weaknesses, pains, and sicknesses. When I exercise faith in Him, I honestly feel Him come right to my aid, and strengthen me. He truly is my friend. I'm a Mormon (member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) because this church is true and brings knowledge, peace, and joy I can't describe. I love being a member of this church.

How I live my faith

Back home, before I came to college, I taught the Sunbeams (4 year old children). I loved that calling so much because those sweet children had been taught and understood who Jesus Christ was and why He mattered. There is so much to learn from children. I now have a calling to teach the young women of my ward. I love this new calling because it is so easy to relate to these girls and have fun with them. They are so strong as they find themselves and discover their own testimonies, and face daily challenges with faith and courage. I soon will have the calling to invite others to come unto Christ as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I want others to know the peace, joy, and strength I receive from being a member of this church and exercising faith in Christ.
