Hi I'm Scott Van Orden

Biker, Golfer, Mormon!

About Me

I grew up in the Salt Lake valley and after graduating from the University of Utah, moved to Northern California to pursue my career in accounting as a CPA. My choice of career has been good to me and my family. We have lived in a few different places, experienced changing work opportunities, learned and worked in new industries, enjoying the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. I love to golf, especially with my sons, and enjoy riding my bike early mornings.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe He is my Savior. I believe He has a church on this earth that He organized, and I believe that church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I believe that because God loves me, he watches over me and influences me each day to make good decisions for myself and my family. It is a great feeling waking each day and knowing that I have a constant companion to help me through each day. I pray often to my Father in Heaven, many times silently as I go throughout my day. I know prayer influences my life for good and I have great trust that my Father in Heaven hears my prayers and provides direction because of those prayers. I believe in the great importance of families. I believe a family is an eternal unit, ordained by God to be together forever, eternal. I have no greater love than for my God, my Savior, and my family. These are the reasons I love living, and these are the things that give me purpose in life. I am blessed with a wife whom I adore and love, and with children for whom I feel the same way. I feel I am both lucky and blessed by my Father in Heaven. My favorite scriptural passage is "Adam fell that men might be, and men are that they might have joy". It is all about finding joy in this life and I believe the gospel of Jesus Christ leads us to finding that kind of joy. I want more than anything to ensure those who know me, know that I have great faith in Jesus Christ, that I am a believer. I have great hope for all of God's children, and pray each day I will be worthy of who I am, a child of God.

How I live my faith

I live my life based on my faith in Jesus Christ, at least I hope I represent that to the world. My church provides me opportunities to serve each day. I love serving in my current church congregation helping members be more productive missionaries. I also am given the opportunity to help teach others in my area that are investirgating or interested in knowing more about my church. A few years back, I served as a church leader for college students in the 18-30 age range. I was able to counsel them and help them as they made important decisions during that very important time in life. I learned to trust in my Father in Heaven's guidance as I tried to influence these students positively in pursuing their education, their careers, and their dreams. It is always a good day when you can have a positive influence on someone else, and God provides me those opportunities each day. I believe those opportunities become more important when you are able to help someone else find God in their life and recognize God loves each of us and has a plan for us.
