Hi I'm Mariah Johnson

I am a soccer player and a music lover. Called to serve in the Raleigh North Carolina Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy playing soccer and most other sports. I also love singing and attempting to play instruments of all kinds. I am currently, not so patiently waiting to serve a mission starting in October 2014.

Why I am a Mormon

There is a common misconception that if you are born into this church that that's the only reason you are still a Mormon. People will say things like, " well its all you know. You just do as your parents have taught you." I was born into this church but have my own conversion story. All members who truly believe this church have their own as well, whether they were born into the church or are a convert. All through my life I leaned on my parents testimony until I was 13 years old and my dad was diagnosed with Esophageal Stomach Cancer. He was given less than a three percent chance to live. My families world should have come crashing down. Fortunately It did not. In our church we have something called a Priesthood blessing. Worthy holders of this priesthood can administer a healing blessing for the sick. Of course my dad was given one of these blessings. Our whole extended family was there and I was trying my best not to cry. I remember feeling anxious, worried and very stressed. They layed their hands on his head to begin the blessing. Once they started talking I suddenly felt an enormous amount of comfort. This comfort came from whats called the spirit. It is hard to describe the kind of feeling the spirit brings but it was a warm feeling in my stomach and in my chest. All the bad feelings turned to peace. I knew no matter what happened to my dad that we would be okay. I knew it because even if my dad died I would see him again. I will live with my family forever, even after death. The true church has been restored to the earth. His priesthood is back and it does work. It is a real thing. I have seen it work. Five years have passed and my dad runs three miles a day and was able to attend my graduation ceremony. It was Gods will that my dad would live. If he had died this story would be no different. The day he received the blessing was the day I gained my testimony. This church is true and that is something I will never forget.

How I live my faith

In my ward I was called to teach the five year old children. I was not sure if I would enjoy this calling but I have grown to love all the kids that I teach. They may only be five but I have found that they seem to be the ones teaching me. I am going to be serving a mission in North Carolina starting October 8th.
