Hi I'm Travis

I'm from Oregon. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in northeast Oregon, where my ancestors settled after crossing the Mormon Trail over a century ago. Unlike my pioneer forefathers, I'm a bit of a home body who prefers sleeping indoors. But I've inherited from them a conviction that there is a loving God in Heaven with a plan for my eternal happiness. I'm trying my best to follow wherever it leads.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith teaches me I can serve God by serving my fellow men. As a 19-year-old, I volunteered to be a Mormon missionary. My Church leaders sent me to an island in the Caribbean, where I coped with a new language and a frequent lack of running water or electricity. I recall walking down a dirt road one evening and passing a large filthy pig grazing near a stream of foul-smelling sewage. It was pretty disgusting. Moments later, however, I glanced up at the horizon and saw tall palm trees and an amazing orange-red sunset mirrored on the sea. Despite the squalor surrounding me on the road, I was grateful to be there. Elevating my perspective had completely changed my outlook. Being a Mormon elevates my perspective on life. The Gospel of Jesus Christ helps me find beauty and meaning during even the most difficult times.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being a faithful husband, a loving father, and by treating others with kindness and respect, regardless of their background. I make mistakes, but I try to correct them and learn from them. I try to remember that everyone has "a past" -- and that I shouldn't judge others too harshly because they have sinned differently than me. I don't ever want to be an obstacle to a person's path back to God, I'd rather help them along in any way I can.
