Hi I'm Mindy

I grew up in beautiful Ohio. I enjoy talents in music and literature. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up as the 7th of 9 children. This meant that I had many examples of what to do and what not to do. I really enjoy reading books. Some of my favorites include Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Percy Jackson. Everyone in my family was taught to play the piano by my wonderful mother. I can also sing and play the flute. I used these talents for Marching Band and Theater while I was in High School. I graduated with Honors from that school. I enjoy learning new things, as every subject interests me in some way. One of my favorite subjects to study is American Sign Language. I have several friends that are deaf and I love communicating with them in their beautiful language. I currently attend Brigham Young University. I haven't yet decided what I want to be, but it will most likely be a teacher.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this church. I used to think that everyone knew about the Gospel and the Church. I believe that true happiness doesn't come from merely doing what other people tell you to do because it's cool or popular. Trends come and go and they won't bring happiness. Happiness comes from knowing and understanding the Doctrine of Christ and happily following in His footsteps. I testify that if you will ask God for yourself in sincerity, then he will tell you the truth of all things. This is what I did, and I can testify that I know that the Book of Mormon has the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and goes hand and hand with the Bible in teaching us how the Savior lived and how He wants us to live and follow Him. I know that the fullness of the Gospel was Restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I don't know this because my parents told me. I know this because I studied it and prayed to God to ask if it was true. He promises us many times in the Bible "Ask and ye shall receive". True to His word, He answered my prayers and reassured me that the knowledge that I had grown up with was true. Because the Church was restored, we don't have to stumble around in the dark. We can know the things that we need to do.

How I live my faith

My calling in my ward is as the the Chorister. I enjoy this position both because this is what I did in the Marching Band and because my mother is the organist. I used to be in the Activities Committee that would plan activities for the people of the ward to come together and have fun. I also enjoy my calling as a visiting teacher. I am relatively new this, but it has helped me in knowing the wonderful sisters that I am surrounded with better. There is a feeling of satisfaction and peace that comes when you are in the service of your fellow men. My ward is considered the deaf ward for our location in Ohio. I first saw ASL used when I was 8 years old. I wanted to learn how to talk to them. I have had many opportunities to use that gift in serving my wonderful brothers and sisters of the deaf community. Many times they feel cut off because not everyone makes the effort to communicate with them. But I want to serve everyone I come in contact with. We learn from the scriptures that we are blessed for keeping the Commandments and following the prophet. This is what I always strive to do in our day and age. It doesn't matter that I might not always understand the reasons why God tells us to do the things that we do. I know that He loves me and everything that He tells me to do is there to make me happy and help me to become a better person.
