Hi I'm Chase Oliphant

I'm from Sandy, Utah. I'm a singer, a jazz trombone player, and a basketball player. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest boy of my family, and am totally in love with music. Whether I am singing with my church choir, playing my trombone in solitude, or just listening to the sweet harmonies, meaningful lyrics, and intricate rhythms found on my iPod, this is when I am happy. Music is a way for me to let go of all the stresses found from school, athletics, and family. It's a way for me to find peace and happiness with who I am. However, it's not the only way. Before my love of music was discovered, there was my first love; the game of basketball. With the body I have been given ( 6'8" 270 lbs) I was meant to play basketball. I love everything about the sport. I love the atmosphere of a game, the intimate friendship that comes with being on a team, and the feeling of accomplishment received after a victory. Whenever I feel angry or upset I know the best thing for me to do is go out and shoot some hoops. Basketball and music are my passions. I love them more than anything in this world.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the Holy Spirit of the Lord. He has touched me and influenced my life so many times. I cannot deny him, and I will not. The Lord has sent me to a loving family who has taught me to give gratitude to the Lord for everything, and to have charity, the pure love of Christ, towards everything. I am a Mormon because I know that the Savior, Jesus Christ lives, and He loves me. I am a Mormon because I know that God himself and his son Jesus Christ visited Joseph Smith in the sacred grove, and gave him instruction to restore The church of Christ back on the earth. I am a Mormon because I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and i know that President Monson is the living prophet who communes with God to receive revelation to guide us on the path back to our Heavenly Father. I am a Mormon because I love the Lord.

How I live my faith

Being a Mormon in Utah is different than being Mormon in other places. This is mostly because in Utah, you're not part of a religious minority. Everyone around you is either a Mormon or knows all about the Mormons and wants nothing to do with us. Because of this, it's a little harder to "let your light so shine before men" because your light is just added to all the other lights around you! In order to truly stand out as an example for truth and righteousness extra work must be done. I have tried to accomplish this through service. For the past 3 years I have been able to do volunteer work with mentally and physically handicapped children. During the time I have spent with these kids I have grown to love them so much. They mean so much to me. I have learned an incredible amount about myself, and about having unconditional love for everyone, no matter what their situation. I love each and every one of the kids that I have worked with. They mean the world to me and I know that my efforts to help them have changed their lives. As King Benjamin stated in Mosiah 2:17 "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
